I'm not even really sure if this is the place to post this but I'm running Apache (or trying to) and I'm having some issues.

Let me start out by saying that I am running Mac OS X on the Intel Mac. That being said, I recently bought a book on PHP, MySQL, and Apache because I'm hoping to get the basic knowledge of how this whole internets fad works and how I would build a website.

So, I install MySQL and PHP (Apache is already installed so no worries there). The installations were successful and everything seemed tip top when I successfully make the classic "Hello World" appear on my browser at http://localhost/test.php. Right after that, life happened and I had to shut down my computer. The next day I turn it on and go to http://localhost/test.php to make sure everything is in mint condition and I get a message saying that Firefox cannot connect to localhost.

I blink in disbelief and just go to http://localhost which shows the Apache Test Page which just lets me know that I'm using Apache. So I click on the link that says Manual. I, again, get the Firefox cannot connect page which I will now refer to as the FU page. So I check my little book that I bought and it says that to activate Apache I need to go to Terminal, go to the root menu and type
    # /usr/sbin/httpd .

So I did and tried out http://localhost again and now http://localhost also has the FU page. So here I am, wondering if anyone knows what I can I do. I am going to try a few more things tonight and will post if I fix it, but chances are, I won't figure it out. So, please, help me learn the computer. I will bake you some cookies. I apologize, but I can only bake you metaphorical cookies right now. I hope you aren't allergic. Thank you.
