Major fall in ranking!

Today my website fell from 5th search result to 11th on my paricularly important keywords!!! This is bad, I think that adding keywords had something to do with it since thats the only think I changed recently. I deleted the new keywords, now I just have to wait for google to spider my web site again and hope that I will be in the top 5 again! Why did this happen anyways? Did they punish me for using too many keywords?

Geez... since when is a fall of 6 spots a "major fall"?

Millions of sites out there, maybe they did something to improve their rankings and bumped you out.

If you are using Shawn's Keyword Tracking tool, you may want to get ready to dial 911. There will be times when you see a drop of 9999.... are you prepared ;)

In reality, 6 spots is nothing and definitely nothing to worry about.

yeah a drop in 6 is nothing. it just means that i'll rise back up again anyways. no telling if that -6 is live on google anyways. Don't sweat too much. Its when its -6 each day for a week and drops to 50th spot that its time to worry ;)

yeh right, now I get like very little traffic, since yahoo hates me and my site shows up on yahoo some days, and then disapperas again, so like 99.9% of my traffic is from google. And now that google dropped me, I'm on the 2nd page of search results :(

Bad idea to have to rely on the SE's for all your business unless what you are offering is unique or the best in the business.

Googles, I really wouldn't worry about it.

Keep getting backlinks and secure your place on page one if you are really that worried about it...

What other methods of advertising do you do suggest besides SEs. In terms of cost effectiveness; its the best way to go.

What is your product or service? Flyers are a great cheap service. I think they cost me .02 per and the return is phenomenal. It would depend what your product is. The SE's are so flaky and there is no guarantee (what if they went to $$$ for all business websites, would you be able to afford) that you need to have alternatives.

I saw the biggest drop today myself. 10% of the KW's I track went off the charts. (-9900) I dont know why - but hopefully after a few days it'll reboud. I usually have a few KW's that bounce from 3rd page to -9900 every day or two, but have never seen so many lose all at once

Well, my site fell 55 positions (from 4th to 59th) on the one really important keyword in google. I don't remember changing anything! It went back to 4 for a brief time, and then again to 59th! Why the oscillation? Will I have to crawl back all those screens? Or do sites just periodically shift like that?

As a matter of fact, i have noticed such oscillations in google after the bourbon update. I'm having "on and off" good rankings in google for some keywords for some of my newer sites too. I'm also seeing such changes in yahoo too, although there's not a big leap as in G!. MSN seems more stable to me :)
