This problem has been bugging me for ages now. Could someone please tell me how to sort it out :)

    Example of problem

    1. I go to excell
    2. Lets say I go to A1 and type in:- number of computers
    3. Then in A2, I type in 5 (meaning I have 5 computers)
    4. You would expect it to have 5 when I press enter but it changes to 05-Jan

Please could someone tell me what I am doing wrong lol :)

it's very clever Excel. Use one time Ctrl-Z, btw, i didn't have this problem
you could also turn off auto-replacement somewhere in options

You have the wrong format selected for your cells.

Just click select the cells that are causing this problem (maybe the antire sheet) , then

format menu > cells > number > select general.

Hi James12513, excel have some functions that are on automatically. It may benefit the user but this time round it backfired.
