So I have my website built and I'm having some trouble finding a news posting script for my front page that has everything I need. For example, one script will have archiving but not be SEO friendly, and vise versa. So at this point I'm thinking of just doing my own pages by hand. What I mean by that is on my front page have a brief description of the news for that day/week and just throw in a "read more" link to the article. I could use my own tweet this page and Facebook like buttons and disqus for comments. I'm not really sure how to go about making an RSS, and it will be a tad more time consuming are really the only downsides I can think of. My question is, have any of you ever done this? Or do you know of a better free solution to post news on my site without have to deal with a CMS and themes?
Manually doing that work will probably get pretty daunting, not to say it can't be done tho of course. Wordpress is so easy to use for something like this and there is nothing really to deal with compared to other CMS's like joomla, drupal, etc.
I use to do it, before things like Joomla and Wordpress came along. If you do not like them, people still sell templates. Make sure the CSS is good on the template before you buy it. Do not forget HTML5 is here, and mobile browsers may be coming along to visit...
Ah interesting. I'm still kind of new to all of this but I thought wordpress had to be used as a full site on its on with themes. So I could some how integrate it to just my main page as a new's script?
You could use it ( Wordpress ) as a home page only. It would be awkward and the menus would be a pain, but I am fairly sure it could be done. I am assuming your "main page" is the home ( index ) page. When I mentioned the word "templates" above I should have put in the word "HTML"... like this "HTML templates".
