    Hi Gang

I really need advice on a good server. Im just sitting with a resseller account right now but looking to move to my own server. Any suggestions would be great.

Please only if you have been with the company for a long time with no problems.

    Thanks Kevin

I have used LiquidWeb (http://liquidweb.com) for a couple years now with no issues. They have very good support. I also have one server that is hosted at HostMySite, which is also good.

Liquidweb has a reputation for having good support:)

Also take a look at rackspace, they advertise themselves as having "fanatical support".

    No personal recommendations here^^

This is what I look for in a dedicated server provider:
    • Excellent network, low latency & uptime.
    • Onsite techies to replace hardware fast if it conks off.
    • Reasonable support to respond to network-related queries, downtime, billing etc.
    • Fix any major problems caused because of them, such as incorrect configuration while setting up the server, etc.
    • Offer initial server hardening service.
For which sharktech & black lotus fit my bill:)

Well if unmanaged then LayeredTech has proven to be very GOOD.

Their network is defenseless against ddos... I learnt that the hard way :( Plus they charge $50 for a OS reinstall :|

Never had any problems at all. You say there Network is defenseless against DOS attacks but that isnt quite true. The Network is fine but you set up your own server or pay a company to manage it for you.

If the server isnt set up correctly then yeah you will have trouble.

Im sure that LayeredTech being such a large company wouldnt survive in todays market if what you say be true.

The network is fine by itself but not capable of keeping a server up in case of a serious (200MB/s syn flood for example) attack. Actually most providers aren't able to defend against ddos which is why they simply null route the affected IP. I guess I have special needs:p

Here are some companies in the DDoS protection business:
Prolexic, Gigeservers, blacklotus, & sharktech & awknet.

rackspace is not cheap. probably be easier to get something elsewhere and hire an admin from webhostingtalk or something.

I use theplanet for most of my stuff and then alphared/orangefiber for bandwidth intensive stuff (sending 60mbps constantly out of one box, and have been for a while)

I am with Phatservers.net and they are fully managing my server
Whats impressing me there is their average ticket response time 5-15 minutes
