I've been promoting adult sites in adwords for awhile now, but anyone in the business knows how difficult that has become since the QS launch, and seems to only be getting harder. That being said though, in adult there were many times i'd find a 'niche' that I could promote for .05 - .10 a click and have pretty decent rankings. This was a low risk way to test if things converted w/o blowing your bank account. However with the changes, i've been trying to dip my feet into mainstream here and there with little to no success. Every time I try a 'niche', it seems like it costs $1+ to get any type of decent listing, and i'm not about to pay that if it doesn't convert. What i'm wondering is if there are any niches out there where you could actually get pretty decent rankings spending under .25 per click, or is mainstream just a very scaled up version of adult? Is $1+ a click 'norm' to get on first page listings? Or have I just been fishing in the wrong pond? Thanks!
The adult industry is very competitive and gets more competitive by the day. Getting clicks for .05 - .10 is not common in the adult industry and most clicks are probably more in the $1, $5 and even $10 and up, depending on what part of the adult industry you are really in. There are many niches which are around .25 per click, but not mainstream at all. Usually these are small niches or sub niches of mainstream niches. I think your fishing in the right pond, but your failing to realize that your actually fishing in the ocean with a fresh water stick =)
Well my mainstream I was basically referring to porn vs non porn. What do you consider mainstream in that example? Like generic 'ring tones' type of campaigns?
porn is a mainstream and highly competitive industry such as ringtones mortgage loans insurance computer tech dating diet and many others
ahh ok, so you're suggesting just looking for the micro niches of those mainstream classes (non porn works as well) and I can find those more affordable CPC keywords? I guess I should begin my affiliate search
Well over time i'd like to scale up a bit but right now I can't afford to drop $1 a click unless i'm very confident about my ability to sell the product.
more people competing for adspace means higher clicks plus Googles stupid QS makes you PROVE your worthyness for cheap clicks .... so yes the days of a quick bangup throw everything at it and still get .05 bids are gone but you can still get .05 bids just takes more work.
