I am thinking about buying some magazine advertising to promote my forum. The prices can get expensive with a price tag of $600 - $900 US dollars for the ad size I am looking at. I just want targeted traffic in order to get more people to sign up on the forum. Right now the forum has 18,000+ members, but I would like to drive that past 20,000 pretty quick. The other day I saw this magazine that was selling ads. And its in the same exact niche as my forum. So I thought, why not go ahead and buy an ad. What can it hurt. Has anyone here used magazine ads, how did they work out, were the results worth it, would you do it again,,,,,,. If you have bought magazine ads, any information you can provide would be nice.
Lots of successful Internet marketers use offline advertising. One of the most successful is to send out a direct mailing with a purchased mailing list. A magazine ad should be effective, but there is a fairly large time lag. A direct mailing would be quicker, and I suspect it would get better results for money spent.
As everyone is saying above, go the adwords route. Or why not buy advertising on that magazines website? Could possibly be cheaper and yield more results due to one less step people have to follow to sign up.
Overture or Adwords. I personally use Adwords. http://www.search-marketing.info/search-engines/price-per-click/overture.htm Check it out and decide for yourself. They provide you with a pretty good comparison between the two.
