I created a news network from my main site, and submitted it to Google News. Google accepted it and my team of writers began writing. Yesterday, we had great success and when I went to bed, there were 3,000+ visitors after 1 hour! Lo and behold I woke up to find my account with bravenet suspended- then discovered they don't even have a phone number where I can contact them. Does anyone know a PROFESSIONAL hosting company that can handle my traffic without suspending my account? I need to figure out how to transfer everything to a new hosting- and hopefully my files will come with the transfer. Is this even possible? Thanks for any help, Charisse (who highly recommends that you DO NOT use Bravenet)
I really hate how some of these hosting companies just shut you down without notice. It can really hurt a site's credibility.
I am so beyond furious right now. I found a new hosting group and will be on a virtual private server- now, if only I could hear back from Bravenet so I can get my website files and transfer them! It might be more feasible for me to build the new site from scratch today, rather than wait on Bravenet- They have no customer service numbers, can you believe that???? I switched to inMotion and the guy I spoke with knew what he was talking about- really, I was sold just by the fact there was someone answering the phone! How long am I supposed to wait to get access to MY Website that I Paid FOR! You know, I might file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I can understand their need to shut down the site due to my spike in traffic, etc. But the lack of customer service is unacceptable.
Well if u were expecting such traffic i dont think u should have stayed with any shared host coz no shared host will warn u before suspending if they feel ur site is buging thier server they will just suspend it. Thats the reality of any shared host be it Hostgator, Bravenet or any other.
Bravenet Web Services Inc 1-250-954-3203 Do realize that's an office number and not a customer service number so they'll probably direct you to their support page. That's a Canadian phone number if you're outside of North America. I don;t do stuff like that. On average we have 3-5 sites a week that get slashdotted or mentioned on some news site somewhere. Granted we're a paid service, have some damn good servers and not a freebie service like Bravenet is. I'm sure whatever server the poster was on got maxed out though. Have to admit that I'm rather surprised Google News would accept such a site.
Well, I understand that now...lol What I am complaining about is their lack of customer service- I've paid for a service, yes they have a right to shut it down (I just now found out about shared/vps- which I just switched to) but it is absurd that I cannot get in touch with a real person and get MY WEBSITE off of their site- You know what I mean?
Yea its pretty lame once they suspend u atleast they should have the customer care support to fix the issue asap..or atleast let the users enter the control panel and not let any1 access the http
I can see my wordpress database files but have no clue how to get them off of there-my news network is on wordpress....uggghhhh Thanks, Apparatus for the number-
They did. They booted the problem user. Solved the problem. You have to remember all the other folks on the server. "Needs of the many outweigh..." and all that... To be honest, I would think any host would do that and wait for the customer to contact them. This was just bad timing. But the way, did you open a support ticket with them? That's the route I would have gone.
Well i have noticed some shared hosting have the facility where the site shows server temporary busy error if there are many connections to the site this i think is a good solution atleast u can access the site and take it down and display some kind of message and shift servers .. Just shutting u down is stupid and on that showing a message to the users saying this site has been suspended is bad for the site owner
You will always run the risk of getting shut down when you over use a shared hosting account. It doesn't matter who you host with. If you site is going to cause a resource strain for the other customers they will suspend your site without notice, it's written in the terms of server you agree to. Its to bad that support is not getting back to you as soon as you had hopped but what can you do other then move to a proper web host for your needs. Media Temple is a great service for sites that can expect spikes in traffic. A VPS could still run the rick of bogging down if you really drive some traffic spikes.
You run the risk with any account. I've seen racks unplugged. Actually wish that would happen more often. It's real tempting when I'm in the datacenter and standing next to a certain company's racks and they're inability to boot one of their users who likes trying to DDoS my boxes. edit: Real tempting.
Hi Apparatus, I don't understand what you mean, I didn't understand about the shared server bit until yesterday. I'm now on a VPS with inMotion and they have 24/7 customer support. I've already spoken with approximately 5 different people. Meanwhile, Bravenet still has not answered my support ticket! I've made a new website with my new hosting and have reported Bravenet to the BBB and ICANN- They shouldn't be in this line of business if they can't find time to read and answer paying customer's emails.
Neither one will do anything. BBB will just forward on the complaint, get a "We got your email" back from Bravenet and mark it as resolved. ICANN just gets involved when thousands of people complain and only when it's concerning domain registrars. If you really want to follow up on the issue, best bet would be a lawsuit. Considering this this is probably in a different country for you, I'd reverse any charges on your credit card, chalk it up to experience and move on. Even if you did sue, the most you'll probably recover is the fees paid to them. And that's if the courts don't throw it out right off the bat. I'm sure they have something in their ToS/AUP that you agree not to sue or that you agree to limit damages to fees paid.
But today isn't a holiday and I still haven't heard anything. I wanted to transfer my DNS servers and they are locked on their site. I am reporting them for their horrible customer service and not responding to my demand to give my my DNS servers. As a company they have a requirement to provide prompt and timely customer service. They need to make some changes.
Many companies don;t work weekends. I think it;s namecheap that promotes themselves as 24/7 but when you ask, their support department is 8/5 while it;s their sales department that's 24/7. One of the reasons why it's always a bad idea to host with your domain registrar. Which is not illegal or reportable. No they don't. If that was true, many companies would be out of business. edit: For example, you're using wordpress software but yet they're known for their poor service and lack of follow up. Why haven't you stopped using their software? Following your logic, no one should be using their software. Gotta love a bunch of egotists.
