Made first sales. Could use some advice!

    Hello everyone,

I have been following this forum for quite a long time now and with success! otherwise I wouldn't be writing this post, hehe.

After a long time of reading journals, many posts and almost everything according to article marketing on this forum.. I finally came to a point which was right for me to start from. Many people are saying: "take action, take action". Of course your must take action. But in my opinion, and from my experience so far, you should only take action when you finally feel ready for it.

Well, to keep this aside I would like to come to the point of this topic.

A month ago I started article marketing. I have only been using clickbank and promoting products through ArticleBase + backlinking, bookmarking etc. so far. The reason I haven't been trying ezinearticles yet, is because I have read a lot about it on this forum and I guess its taking too long for articles being approved in my position so I left that for now.

In the beginning I tried about 3 products on clickbank. They were all in different niches. This way I think, as a beginner perhaps, I would get a somewhat better view on results in sales for different niches. I know it also depends on keywords, but I just tried.

I wrote around 10 articles and all of them got approved on article base after around 5-6 hours. The next day I woke up and checked some analytics. I got between 100 - 200 hops without any sale. The fact it didn't result in a sale didn't surprise me, but the amount of hops made me really happy because it made me feel it wasn't all for nothing at that time.

After these 2 days I stopped writing articles and just left the 10 articles doing their work. This might sound really strange, but I did :p The reason behind this was my quite full schedule in the upcoming weeks so I couldn't waste my time if writing articles was all for nothing. I left the articles for about a week. Unfortunately they only gave around 5 hops per day the next week, but without any sale. Those facts made me some sort of unmotivated, so I didn't "care" about it anymore and stepped away from it. At that time it looked more of something that didn't work out for me and seemed to be much more effort and difficult than I thought.

1,5 weeks later I got curious again and just had a little sneak peak at clickbank ;) As you can guess it came up with sales! I got 2 sales within the same niche and 1 sale from the other one. I was really amazed and very happy so I directly started doing this again :) I wrote 7 articles for the niche I got 2 sales from. 4 days later I had 2 sales from them on just one day. After the day I got 2 sales I had to leave it due to a vacation so I could not work on article marketing at all. When I came back I didn't see any sale in 7-8 days.

Now that you know all this I would like to know your thought about it. Was everything just a matter of luck I made the sales after all or not?

And after submitting the 7 articles it took 4 days to make 2 sales on just one day.. After that day -> none. Was that also luck or what should I conclude from all of this. I am just unsure because it isn't resulting in more sales. Maybe I shouldn't care and just write new articles :p or maybe I should care about this.(in some sort of way)

Hopefully someone or, even better, more people can help me with this and give thought about it.

    Thanks

    It's a no brainer: keep taking action and you'll keep seeing results. Stop taking action and eventually results will completely fade. That's pretty much how it goes with Clickbank, as it's as linear of a causality as you'll find regarding article marketing (-;

    Good job.
I do article marketing and this is my advice:

Ezine is king so you need to start using them along with Article Base. It will take a while for your articles to get approved but once you become an expert Author and a Premium member....they take a lot less time. Trust me, it is worth it.

This is how to do this quick: Go to Scriptlance or even here and find a expert writer who is familiar with Ezine and have him/her write you 20 articles on your niche. Set up a Ezine account and submit all 20 at once. Wait your 2-4 days to get approved. Once you are approved you will more likely be an "expert" author already. If all 20 get approved without any rejections, you will then be a Platinum member. It may cost you $100 to get this done but well worth it.

Again, make sure you have someone write who is familiar with Ezine and their TOS. if any get rejected you will have to prove you are worthy of Platinum which could take up to 20 more articles. After this, you are well on your way!

Then, what i do is first submit my articles to Ezine. Once approved, i then change 11% of my text and re-submit to 3 or 4 others. I then spend the rest of the week backlinking these articles. So i do not do many articles a week (maybe 5-10) but i make a lot of sales just purley off of backlinks and bookmarking.

    Again, Good luck!

Thanks for the good replies so far :)

I should have a look at ezine soon then! But at the moment I am on a rough $ 130 so I would like to have some more sales before I will buy any articles.

Do you think writing 7 articles, which took me around 3 - 4 hours, is worth $ 50 ? Even though it isn't a 100 % stable amount of money, I will just take $ 50 as that was the amount of money in sales I actually earned for the last two of them.

Thanks for the replies again, could use even more :D

Do you have any idea which articles resulted in sales? If not, why not? You need to figure out what is working and why people are buying. Otherwise you spend a whole lot of time chasing numbers that will over time just burn you out and not result in a steady stream of income.

Hmmmm, hehe. You might have opened my "silly eyes" at this point. I have been looking at this earlier but without any possibility's for a conclusion. Didn't came to my mind on looking at statistics for article views again. At this point I really got something here I guess. Thanks.

:) yes the feeling of making my first money online felt really good. Because if something works at this point of my internet career.. what if I would do it x10? :D

    thank you jazzd1.

Make sure as well that you are building your own sites with all these articles, like a Wordpress blog or something, you will get better positions in the SE's as well. Other than that keep up the good work!

diavolo, you can try to link building if those keywords you are targetting from your articles are not very competitive. Then your articles which you are link building will start to rank in search engines.

You need to know the article that brought about the sales and the one that made no sales. Find out why and why not those sales are made. So that you can concentrate your effort in those article or niche that may likely bring about sales.
    Good Luck

    good thread.

however you definitely need to get into ezines and even maybe try squidoo which seems to rank well at the moment
also get some backlinks for your articles , blog comment maybe

    Thanks everyone for feedback :)

Some of the articles are ranking first page google. But for keywords which don't send that much traffic..
In the beginning I didn't look that much at keyword targeting. I just picked suitable keywords to start with and wrote articles. A few articles got some nice amount of views to start with :) I can't be any more specific about it because it has been some time ago.. But if you like you can follow my beginner journal on this forum to see how I progress in article marketing right now.

I use squidoo for backlinking atm. Didn't get into blog or forum commenting yet. Do you think it will make a great difference in traffic?

Not a massive or instant difference, but gradual backlinking, from a range of sources over a period of time will help you rank higher in the search engines - I do a LITTLE BIT of this jsut to cover this area, but I wouldn't get too carried away with spamming your link all over everyones blogs
