Made a mess-up of a site transfer - any ideas?

    Hey guys,

I recently bought a site - Although I have a few sites already it is the first time I've bought one.

I thought transfering would be pretty simple but I've made a balls up of it and now I'm stuck!

Well, first, the seller pushed his domain name to my godaddy account. Then, stupidly, I changed the nameservers to point the domain to my host BEFORE I transfered any files over to my side.

So, I re-pointed the nameservers back to the sellers host but now it won't let me login to the sellers control panel and the site just shows up as a broken link.

What have I done wrong and what do I need to do to fix it? Any help would be much appreciated!

    Thanks in advance

    Altug

P.S I have emailed the seller for help but time difference is big between us.

a domain transfer take almost 2 days to 1 week so i would wait untill then and a name server updates take up to 24 hours. you can also do a full backup on your countrol panel

Ok kool it's back :) thanks for your reply.

I have another question now. The seller has the blog on wordpress - When I transfer all of the files over to my host what do I do about carrying over the wordpress information?

Do I just login to wordpress with the details given to me? Would I not need to install wordpress on to my own control panel? The part that is confusing me is that it is asking me before installing wordpress to create a new login etc. Will this not get rid of all the site content if I install a fresh wordpress on to the domain?

Hope these questions make sense. I've never worked with wordpress before so apologies for the noob questions.

Thanks a lot for the help again

    Best wishes

best is to ask the seller to give the db and files and u can simply dump those in your hosting and change db details and it will be ok to setup the site :)

To transfer wordpress blog, you will require to transfer all the web contents as well as MySQL database of the wordpress blog.

Thanks a lot for all your help.

Khailash, my question now actually relates to your post..Everything has gone smoothly until I imported the sellers mysql database. Now I can't log in to my wordpress.

What is the correct way to get all the websites contents and posts transfered on to the site? When I transfered all the files from wp-content, it was still only showing the "hello world" single post.

Now I've imported his database, I have all the posts etc but now I can't login...this has frustrated me all day :( I've spent 8 hours trying to transfer this site lol

2 days to a week for a transfer? If the loosing registrar accepts the transfer it can be down in a matter of hours. The last one I did took under 2 hours. Thats the difference between service and lousy service.

As for the OP I would contact your hosting company to see if they can resolve your problem with the name servers.
