Macromedia: Transparent backgrounds

Does anyone use Macromedia for graphics? Does anyone know how to make a transparent background continue to appear transparent when importing into a website?

I can get a background appearing transparent in a png file (which takes up masses of disc space), but as soon as I save it to jpg it appears as a white background.

jpg's cannot have transparency. You have to use png or gif - and ie6 has display issues with png transparency.

Macromedia is no longer a company, it was bought by adobe, you should upgrade your software to help you innovate with your designs.
