what will happen to people sales of vps anyway because i just got a email saying lxadmin/hypervm is unsecure now which would mean people would after actually pay for a panel like cpanel wouldnt they
It finally means the end of kiddie hosts It means that companies will have to bite the bullet and pay for Virtuozzo.
Yes and No. HyperVM is a VPS Control Panel, you do not need HyperVM to manage your VPS, because all it did was show you usage graphs, and allowed you to reboot, shutdown, rebuild your vps.. You can accomplish all of that using SSH. HyperVM/LxAdmin is no longer going to be supported by LxLabs. LxAdmin is a Web hosting control panel... which is like CPanel, DirectAdmin, etc.. There are still many free options such as Webmin, or ISPConfig.
Exactly, and very well put Klear Concepts. Some people have the misconception that you need HyperVM or any VPS Control Panel to accomplish those tasks, when all it takes is a little knowledge of basic commands. But, I guess this also the reason why people pay for Fully Managed services LOL LxAdmin and HyperVM are both, I believe, out of question now if you are truly interested in the security of your servers. Yes, patches were released, but what happens when more security exploits surface? Maybe since it was public GNU, some group of developers will take over ... mod it to hell, and make something even more secure.. Look at ircII that turned into BitchX .. an add-on script that eventually took over as it's own entity, developed by one guy, now pretty much standard for any IRC connectivity in a *nix environment..
Isn't that the case of vaserv getting hacked is caused by hacker packet sniffing the owner password? Most of the security issue has been patched now, as I read thier forums..
I completely disagree with that. Once the owner of hypervm died, MANY people started making VPS control panels, some are really amazing while others are just C^$P. There are soo many that could replace hypervm for the budget community - not every 1 will have to move to virtuozzo XD 100$+++ for 10 VPS's only ... GG - if thats the case, every 1 will increase their VPS prices, which will decrease their sales... Anyways, just my 2 cents
