lucky or ingenious backlinks?

Just wondering if people could share some of their stories or ingenious ideas, on how to get a good PR (Google) link to their site?

My best (luckiest) was this: Our newspaper has a section every week on some useful new websites. I Emailed them with my website, and lo and behold it was in there a few weeks later! Since all the newspaper articles are kept online as well, it got me a PR4 link to my website as well. Ingeneous... NO... lucky... YES

Thanks for the tip! :) I suggest you to put comments on blogs, and put your website, and put a keyword in the name. So you get a free high PR backlink from that website with the keyword as the anchor text!

hold a contest, offer some prizes, really great way to get people to talk about your site, especially if the contest is unique and the prizes are half decent :)

Thats some good tips, thank guys!

I find comments on blogs often don't show as they usually moderated by default.

A contest is a good idea, although I'm not sure if it is likely to win many permanenet links unless you do it regularly.

Feeds will onyl get you links if people actually decide to use/subscribe to the feed, isn't that right?

    Cheers!

this is the old way of getting backlinks. most of the blogs are using nofollow to their outgoing link to prevent comment spam

    Thanks for that!

I'm not sure what your link is about though... it leads to a no-spam site with a list of Email addresses...

Most of the blogs use "Rel=no follow" so this will not make any benefit from comments.

Good for you! Sometimes the best methods are ones that you'd never imagine would work. But you'll never know if you don't try. I once shot a brief email to a script vendor if they could mention my site as an example of their script in action. A few days later I got a permanent PR 7 link from them. Most PR7 sites won't link to you for free as they could sell the link to other webmasters for at least $40-70 a month, so there is a bit of luck involved, too.

Not only for that, no follow will also prevent sharing the link juice.
