Hi, I have a .ltd.uk domain name. In terms of SEO, is this domain going to hold me back in Google and the other engines? Should I buy another domain name? Many thanks
Doesn't ltd mean limited company or something .ltd.uk shouldn't hold back your SEO score, but visitors will be turned off that it's not one of the big 3 (.com, .net, .org) Try aiming for a .com but if you paid for the .ltd.uk then it should be ok... I guess
It should do just fine in Google UK searches - particularly if the site is also physically hosted in the UK. It is likely be tougher to compete with global searches, and I'm with Gnarfard in that non UK searchers are likely to take it less seriously.
I thought you could only register those if you are a limited company, with the company name matching the url?
I thought if you have keywords in your URL is best for SERPS? So if you've got joebloggsltd.co.uk for example you wouldn't do so well searching for ipods...
For a UK site people will want to see a .co.uk address. Personally I find a co.uk far more effective than a .com, as most people will type co.uk before com anyway. Ltd.uk is not a good domain for real users - but from SERPS perspective it is fine.
Hi, Type-In Domains Are Best You would be better of getting either a “Type-In†domain name related to your niche market. - Type-In domains are short keywords or phrases that a person types directly into the browser window and then put either: 1) .com 2) .net 3) .org - If you have the name that a person is typing into their browser, naturally you are more likely to get that traffic for that phrase. - If you’re in the UK, some will also ad .co.uk at the end of their search phrase. If no luck with “Type-In†names you should try for an easy to remember name of the following extensions: 1) .com 2) .net 3) .org. Hope the above helps – Natfirst P.S. .ltd.uk should be fine for Google UK. You can move up the ranks in other Googles, e.g. Google South Africa or India, but you will probably not rank as well as you do in the UK and you may take a few months more to move up in my experience. Then of course you are faced with the problem of getting people in other countries to click on a .ltd.uk domain name as opposed to a .com (or .co.in, .co.za if appropriate to their country).
