Barr introduced RP at the Washington Conservative Political Action Committee presidential candidates forum.

He's better than McCain, but his position on foreign policy is pretty bad.

He's not a true libertarian-republican like Paul is. He's much more a traditional conservative. I'm surprised he won. I really thought Ruwart would have a solid chance.

I'm very happy it's Barr - he has more name recognition and is more likely to draw votes away from McCain. Also his poor foreign policy means he's less likely to draw votes from Obama.

Latest Zogby poll with all 4 (including Nader) in:

    Poll Results:
    Obama 47%
    McCain 37%
    Nader 4%
    Barr 3%
    Other/Undecided 10%

Cato is trying to label him anti-libertarian on his trade votes,

    http://www.cato-at-liberty.org/2008/05/14/is-bob-barr-a-libertarian-certainly-not-on-trade/

but you know how it is when you have to vote yes or no on these 300+ page mercantile trade agreements. Either way you could end up voting against 100 pages of stuff you like.

Otherwise, Barr is walking the same sort of fine line on Iraq as Obama. They say they're against it now that they're running for president in 2008, but their voting past says otherwise. Barr won't even have the standing to really challenge Obama's version of interventionism, but he can't out-hawk McCain either. Then he goes off on this weird secure-the-borders nativism.

Terrible choices I'll just write Ron Paul's name in magic marker. Who cares if they count it at this point.

Cato is part of the Kochtopus. Cato, Reason etc. I don't think they're really libertarian. In every way except funding, Mises is superior.

Chuck Baldwin won the Constitution Party nomination. In my opinion, he's the closest thing to Ron Paul. He's a pastor who understands the right to religious freedom and is really into the Constitution.

I don't know if he will be on your ballot or not, but I'd probably choose him over Barr myself.

Pretty interesting article from The Economist.

    Raising the Barr
    http://www.economist.com/world/na/displaystory.cfm?story_id=11455827

They talk down libertarians, which I find pretty frustrating.

Libertarianism is a really broad term. It's everything from anarcho-syndicalists to people who want to be able to smoke pot or bear arms. A massive demographic when taken as a whole. In fact, I'd say that 80% of Americans are at least single-issue libertarians of one sort or another.

Bob Barr roundup. I'm not really following the campaign very close, but the McBama comment inspired me. Plus he's polling out of this world for a 3rd party candidate who has spent NO MONEY so far.

There is the Constitutional Party, the Libertarian Party, and the Independent supporter "American Reform" party. But they seem to be mere distractions to the 2 main biggies, the GOP and the Dems. It is so difficult to come on the ballot. Ross Perot did it in 1992 coz he had tons of money ( and was a very successful businessman). Chuck Baldwin and Bobb Barr may probably get <10% votes each. Whats the point in running the elections then?

A better plan would be for all the Libertarian and Constitutional Party members to join the GOP and the Dems in large numbers, and then change those parties from the inside. Sort of an infiltration. That would take time, many years of hard work, but in the end, their Principles & Core Values could succeed.

Easier said than done, and until the 2 party system is 'reformed' in itself it will be more of the same. In order to get elected even the man/woman with good intentions will waffle under pressure, changing what they stand for.

A third party breaking out is essential, to say it's not even worth it for only getting 10% is IMO horse shit. It wont be easy, but hopefully some day the people will get sick of it enough to vote a third party in the presidency. We have had at least one third party governor ;)

If a third party could draw a small percent from both the left and the right, their own supporters and bring a decent amount of new comers they do have a chance.
