Lower ad units improve landing page Quality Score?

I have a landing page that continually got smacked upside the head by AdWord's Quality Score. Then I shoved the ad unit (yeah, one lone ad unit) way down below the fold, and now AdWords seems accept nearly any keyword I submit (within reason) and at the bid price I want. Anybody else experience this or could I just be imagining this?

Google has become very unpredictable with adwords. They give very little information on anything.

Undo what you did and see if it effects you again :)

I haven't seen ad placement make any difference on the landing pages/campaigns I watch.
