its newly set up with low traffic. my aim to get the traffic up, no target is set. how many should i realistically expect?

Using a good domain is the best idea. But you can also get good traffic with this site.
Try to get good relevant back links to your site. Submit your site to health related directories in the net. So that , you will get more relevant traffic.
And keep related topic under the articles. This will be good one, if you want the visitors to stay in your site for more time. So that you will get more page views and good money for that. And of course submit your site to all good book marking sites like digg, reddit etc

The domain you have seems to a sub-domain, try to buys your own domain then try Search engine optimization and try to wrtie some unique own written articles, then guest post in some blogs, do article marketing, social media marketing and I'm sure you will get much better traffic...
