Hi everyone. I recently opened a forum on my games site: http://www.thegamehomepage.com My site currently get's 10k-15k unique visitors a day but the forum is only getting about 10 signups per day, despite the fact there are some interesting things to do such as play for high scores against each other, enter tournaments, chat about the latest games etc. What do you guys think, is 1 signup per every 1,000 visitors about right or is that low? Is there more I could do on the site to encourage ppl to get involved?
looking at the home page i would just feel to play games there, you can have top 10 discussed thread in index page or something which encourages members to get into discussions. also some paid posting initially to start and boost the boards.
Good job man! 10k a day is a great number. As far as the signup rate I think that, for the kind of traffic you have, it is fairly on average. Bye! Marco
I think most people come to your site to play games, not talk about them. If you are sitting at work bored.. and you are looking for an arcade site to play. Then you play, you don't join a forum and start talking about it.
Hit the nail on the head. If I'm visiting a site like that I'm there to play the arcade games not discuss things on a forum.
Yep I think you guys are right. It's good to hear that's probably about average. Thanks to everyone who posted
After looking at your site for about a minute, I finally found the link to sign up. I would add a "sign up" to your tabs. When was the last time you rank a/b or multivariate testing on the language, positioning, colors, etc?
I only just set the forum etc. up so I've hardly experimented at all yet. Anybody have any suggestions of changes that might be effective? The main hook I'm relying on at the moment is the white box at the top of the homepage & every game in the "play" section of the site (ie. the pages where most of my visitors land) that tells users that they can compete for high scores if they sign up. Do you think this is effective?
Well, you seem to have a fantastic gaming related website. Keep it up. Having received feedback about the number of visitors on your website, you next focus should now not be towards poor signups. You have to now look out ways where you can reach out to the right people who are longing to reach out to a website such as yours. How hope you understood my point. Start paying for the right advertisement tool.
I would add "Forum" into that little bit of links at the top there in red (it's early, I can't think of nouns when it's early). The "join the TGH community" link kinda makes it seem like you have to register to play or something. At least that's how I read it. Nice site though, you've definitely done good work!
I never considered that, it's a really good point! I've updated it, now it reads: "REGISTRATION IS NOT REQUIRED but if you do sign up..." A bit of the old reverse psychology Thanks!! I'm really glad I started this thread now I've had some useful advice Thanks guys!
