I have noticed on my own site and on the blogs of some of my clients that there is an extremely high bounce rate on traffic from StumbleUpon. What methods (if any) are people using to decrease bounce rate from your social media traffic? Thoughts and discussion greatly appreciated...
You need some very very good content to get the attention of visitors coming from SU. And even if you do that, the traffic quality will still be poor. Good luck
Stumbleupon is always like that - think about how people are using it. Look at a website *click* next one *click* *click* *click* It's very rare for anything on stumbleupon to get looked at for more than a couple of seconds. That's why people use it, so they can stumble through loads of sites very quickly.
I use many social media sites (including digg). I have gotten 3 things to the front page of Digg in the past couple of months and the swell of traffic was great, but still had a very low conversion rate because once you hit front page, there is really no targeting going on. I think there are going to be some good steps forward on this front by places like Mixx where even the "front page" is still highly segmented.
Traffic from social bookmarking sites is like automated traffic. This traffic do not help much in increasing the earnings. Try to get traffic from search engines.

Viral stuff works with SU. Nothing else does. I get 200 visitors from SU in one day on my site that only gets ~30 uniques a day. 80% bounce rate and 20 seconds average time on the site. Don't even bother with it.
Absolutely amazing content will help decrease bounce rate of the social networks traffic. I would focus on getting traffic from search engines as it converts much better
