Low QS of Comparison&Review-Pages?

Discussion in 'Google AdWords' started by croni, Aug 7, 2008.

We know that Google doesn't like review and comparison pages due to lack of original content (that's what my Google rep and the quality guidelines say) and such pages get slapped with a poor quality score.

My contact also says that they detect those pages automatically and not by manual review. But how? Ideas on the algorithm anyone? We need to know how Google spots those pages to work around the algo :)

Put some original content around the problem before suggesting / reviewing a product which solves the problem... Also put a link to some authority site some where in the footer along with the privacy policy... that should help atleast has helped me in some of my campaigns

And what about avoid using words like "review" and "comparison"? (any other word?)

In case of promoting a review product page, well if I change the content to tell the same information with other words, alter the order of enumeration points, and other things like that... can I avoid to get slaped for duplicated content? Now the content is not duplicated, is it?

Other than google being master at linguistics and probably able to figure it out be keywords and paragraph themes, I would say the most obvious is cloaked links and links pointing out to multiple 3rd party websites. Even if you used no keywords in your content such as review or compare, multilinking to outside sources is probably a good way to get flagged

so what you're saying is that you can only promote one product at a time per landing page? Do you do redirects of your affiliate links (e.g. /merchant/ --> http://www.merchant.com/offer_page.php)?

But...if you cloak all the affiliate links with the trick "go/affiliate.php" and then you disallow the access in the robots.txt to this directory then I suppose that the search engines can't see that you are linking third parties pages, am I right?

you need to fill out your site with good/unique content and google will let these get by

just a 1 page review site will most likely get slapped

They are flagged via a combination of automated & manual reviews.

I don't think Google's AdsBot pays attention to the robots.txt. But I don't know really... good question though: how to earn money, if you get slapped with affiliate or cloaked affiliate links?

Manual reviews? My Google rep said, it's all automated... why do you think it's manual reviews?

Comparison sites are not slapped unless your site is badly constructed :)

google don't like too many affiliate links on landing page, as comparison sites contains lots of aff. links so There is idea to remove affiliate links on landing page. just make 5-6 blank pages and put a refresh and affiliate link on that page. now from landing page link that pages.
