Low QS based on subject matter

"The following types of websites are likely to merit low landing page quality scores and may be difficult to advertise affordably. In addition, it's important for advertisers of these types of websites to adhere to our landing page quality guidelines regarding unique content.
eBook sites that show frequent ads or install malware
    'Get rich quick' sites
    Comparison shopping sites
    Travel aggregators
Affiliates that don't comply with our affiliate guidelines."

A site's subject is not always related to its quality. Applying across-the-board discrimination to anyone or anything is a dangerous business. No, I don't run sites like this, but in principle I don't feel that subject matter should doom a site.

While I think most appreciate the clarity the whole thing strikes me as Google taking a do as we say not as we do stance on certain types of sites. I blogged about last night and published this morning.

Basically I think a solid argument could be made that Google itself owns and promotes via AdWords, sites, that according to these guidelines, should/could have a poor landing page quality score.

It's not only the landing page.First of all you should group your keywords. It's very bad for quality if you place all keywords in one group.

That's not really correct. Yes, if all your keywords are in one group, your ad is going to be untargeted for most of those keywords & won't have a good CTR. Low CTR leads to a low quality score. No, the number of keywords by itself doesn't affect quality score.

Landing page, CTR, and ad text relevance are probably the biggest factors. You can have 1000 keywords in a single ad group with Great quality scores if the above mentioned criteria are all ranked well. Of course, I wouldn't recommend 1000 keywords in a single ad group.

I think landing page is playing a major factor when it comes to quality score for adwords.

Recently, i came across an advertisers whose ad texts, cpc, keyword lists etc are fine and relevant but has very poor landing page. To my surprise, his ads started fairly well but within a day or many keywords became inactive. In addition to this minimum CPC is rising very swiftly. To add to my surprise, i found that even those ads that are active and CPC is fine do not show in the search results. Thus, it seems that landing page plays very important role and less you have quality landing page that adhere to Google terms, you can not exect that your ads will show even if you bid very highly.

More comments and suggestion on this topic is highly appreciated since it is one of the most important issue that needs to be discussed innsearch marketing

You say the biggest factors are Landing Page, CTR and and ad text relevance in getting a great quality score.

You also say that you can put 1000 keywords in one ad group and get away with it.

Do you see the contradiction in what you are saying?

How can you have a relevant landing page, relevant ad and a resulting high CTR if you do not use Ad Groups (Or DKI) ?-

Google just posted in "Inside Adwords" Blog on Sep 18, 2007.

    Here's the link:

Inside AdWords: Websites that may merit a low landing page quality score

I'm just curious, does it will affect people who promote CPA through adwords?

    Please share your thought.

    thanks

It's unlikely - but it is theoretically possible - if all the keywords in the group are closey related, lots of longtails around the same theme , for example. But that's slightly beside the point - the adgroups in themselves don't improve your quality score, they're just a means to an end.

Overall, I think it would because this is an effort by Google to provide better results to their users. However, since you are doing PPA you may not feel it as much.
