low number indexed, but highest results?

I have a site that used to have over 10,000+ indexed in Google, but now only has ~700 pages indexed. Google is still my highest referral compared to Yahoo! or MSN. The other two search engines still have my site indexed just fine, but Google's index number seems to have dimished.

Is this part of BigDaddy or why is it showing such a low number in index and still giving me high SERPs? Anyone have an idea on this?

From my understanding, it is because the other engines algo's are nowhere near as advanced, so even though they have indexed your site alot more, when it comes to returning relevant results for internal pages they fail.

So what I'm wondering is why I have so little number indexed on Google but I still get great rankings on Google?

Not sure if this is the same case as you BUT if you have been following the thread about Bigdaddy Index issues you are likely seeing the same thing. I know I have top rankings but very few pages indexed.

I've been trying to follow as closely as possible, but I'm still confused. Why is it that it indexes so few and still shows high rankings? Don't pages have to show up in the 'index' in order for them to be ranked in the SERPs?

I think you can safely say the lowering of indexed pages isn't attributed to any kind of penalization.

Hmmm odd. Okay, thanks for keeping me posted. I won't worry about the delisting of my site then.
