We're going to promote our web-based game on Google content network using contextual targeting method. Because the nature of the product - web-based game, we assume that everyone online is our potential players. And if we may target everyone, that means as long as the CPC of the triggering keyword of the contextual targeting campaign is kept low, we'd be happy. The more of these low cost CPC keywords the more potential traffic we may generate. I wonder if there are methods and methodologies for us to keep harvesting these triggering keywords. The goal is to have low cost content network traffic in the volume of 100-200k unique visitor clicks in 24-36 hours.
if you are thinking about leveraging the content network for low cpc traffic, I would also consider the site-targeting, not just keyword targeting. While you maybe trying to cast a wide net with your product, the traffic that will yield the best click thru rates and post click metrics is, Im assuming, gaming type sites.
I concur. It sounds like you think every one online is a game player. They're not. You want to target people who already play other games. Find out which sites, must be a lot of blogs and forums on this kind of thing, that are on the Adsense program and target them specifically. Don't keyword target on the content network and definitely don't target every site in sight.
I would like to add that first start with keyword targeting and let google find sites for you which are converting, then create another campaign for site targeting in which you saw results with kw targeting.
Thanks for all your comments. Let me state my goal in clearer terms. I must get 300k unique visitors click within 36 hours. And I'd like to do it through Google content network. According to our estimation of conversion rate, we cannot pay more than 0.8 USD per click. (I'm also discussing this matter on Google AdWords Group: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/AdWords/thread?fid=3ef601a946f42cfa0004705a85cbe5d6&hl=en)
Don't try to get 300k visitors. Concentrate instead on getting targeted, quality traffic. You'll be much more successful in doing so. I guarantee your conversion rate estimate will be way off if you try to get untargeted traffic. And why 300k? Why 36 hours? You plan to stop after 36 hours? Instead, create a long-term campaign to build your business, not try to build a get-rick-quick kind of site. I estimate 300k visitors would require at least 150 million impressions, and I'm being conservative. What you suggest is impossible.
Lucid Web Marketing, I really appreciate your input. But we do have the need to get that much traffic so that we may have enough number of sign-up in approximately the same time to start the game. The design of the game is strategy in nature. Go-slow will absolutely kill it. We have to fill up one server in 36 hour.
