Ive been looking into the legal side of starting a lottery based game online. Cant go into to much detail but does anyone know how much a lottery license would cost? Also do you have to pay to become a verified visa checkout?
In order to run an online lottery or any game of chance, you need to register with a multitude of states. Some require payment, some don't. Some require bonding (up to $30,000 the last time I checked), some don't. It's not something I'd suggest that you take on yourself, but that you get an attorney who is familiar with the law in this area. Failing to do it right could cost you dearly. In some states (though I can't remember which off of the top of my head, to be honest), you could even be subject to criminal penalties for failing to register. If you have questions, let me know. Im from the UK, and it wouldnt be a huge lottery, only around 20 people. So any ideas how much this would cost?
Unless those 20 people are each throwing in a ton of money it won't be worth your time or money to get the proper licensing. Make it a game of skill so you avoid the legal swamp of lottery games.
I know that for local lotteries in the UK (raffles, etc.) you need a license from the local council. But I'm not sure what rules apply to internet lotteries. I would guess that a call or visit to your local council's licensing department couldn't hurt - they will probably be able to advise on general issues. But beyond that, you'll probably need professional legal advice if you take this further.
