Lots of Traffic, Low Google Rating

I have been updating and designing a web site/podcast using a template for several years. We get between 400-1500 hits/downloads a day. I have friends involved in the same field/topic who have let me know they get 12-20 hits a day. Yet my site is ranked down in the thirties, and their sites are often ranked in the top five for that all so important Google search.

For example, someone I know has their site ranked down in the fifties, and then every now and then it jumps to number two for a few days and then all of a sudden is back to the fifties, overnight. I just can’t believe this has anything to do with the number of hits they are getting. I have to think they are using a service of some sort.

Do I need to hire a service with our few precious dollars to get us ranked higher where we belong? Can I do it myself? Who would I hire and what would they do for me? Can paying some money really get our site’s ranking to increase?

To get higher SERPS you need more quality inbound links from quality sites. The more inbound links that use the anchor text of the keywords you are trying to capture on, the higher your listing will be. The keywords need to relate directly to your content, which should be unique and something the visitor wants to read.

Your getting traffic, thats great, now you need to focus on pleasing the beast. Google is loving unique, content. That means make sure you personally wrote your content and check it with copyscape to make sure that it is unique.

Then work on your backlinks. Google apparently is loving incoming links from articles directories, like eZine articles. Personally, I am a fan of articles, not only do they provide you with a high quality backlink, they also give you great targeted traffic.
