Several problems started suddenly occurring on several of my wordpress blogs about 3-4 days ago. I posted about the basic ones previously, and got a few suggestions. However, nothing has worked so far, so I played around and tested other blogs of mine. The problems seem to only be happening on the ones I update most often. Here are the problems I've run into so far: Login Loop - When I type in my login name and password, it tells me one or both isn't valid (when it is). I keep re-entering it, and I eventually get an error message (sometimes even on the first try), which says "The requested URL //wp-admin/ was not found on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request." The only thing that looks funny is the double // before wp-admin in that error code, but that might be normal... no idea. This is happening on most of my blogs that I frequently work in, including: www.BizAmmo.com www.AllFreelanceWritingJobs.com www.NakedPR.com www.FadMarketing.com www.SixFigureWriters.com When I get to that error message, if I re-type www.mysite.com/wp-admin, it takes me to my dashboard as though it had logged in me correctly the first time. The error message appears on a page URL looking like this: http://www.nakedpr.com//wp-admin/ WYSIWYG Problems / Posts Disappearing - This one I've so far only seen on www.AllFreelanceWritingJobs.com. The wysiwyg editor used to have an icon for 'more' but now doesn't. Instead, there's now a dropdown for paragraph formatting that was never there before. I'm only able to publish with the editor off (might be why I only see it on this blog... several others always have it off... however, BizAmmo.com's wysiwyg editor is still fine and dandy). If I try to publish with the editor on, a few other things happen: 1. I can't click on 'code', and 2. After hitting publish, the post publishes (the title and such show on the main page, and the permalink page displays the ads), but the post content itself is simply erased and can't be recovered. After that happens, I'm also not able to delete the posts from the manage posts screen. It looks like it's deleted, but if you exit and re-enter the page, the empty post still exists. I can only delete them by doing it from their edit screen. Comments Don't Post - I've received emails regarding several of the blogs mentioned above, telling me that when people try to comment, they receive a blank white page. Here's an example of a URL of that blank page from one of the blogs - http://www.nakedpr.com/wp-comments-post.php I then tested comments on the other blogs from the list above, and they're all having the same problem. ------------------------------------------------------ What I've Tried: 1. I tried repairing all tables on one of the blog databases (NakedPR.com), but it didn't do anything to fix the problem. 2. I contacted my host, and they said there were no updates on my server for a few months. 3. I tried restarting the computer, and resetting my dsl modem through a suggestion by a DP member, in the hopes it was a local machine issue causing my login problems. It didn't do anything either. 4. I set up a new blog, and it seemed to be ok. I also checked a blog I recently set up on my server for my b/f on old train schedules, and a blog I almost never update (at www.CreativeSelfPromotion.com), and they're both working fine, with editors, logins, and commenting, so it doesn't look like a server thing. 5. I did a system scan to make sure I didn't have any viruses, new spyware, and all of that garbage. 6. (EDIT) Someone PM'd me suggesting to check my htaccess files and update my permalink structure, b/c they had a similar problem with Hostgator (who I'm hosting with) in the past with some cpanel changes. The htaccess files all look fine and dandy however, and updating didn't help. So another thing tried (still looking for ideas). I'm totally baffled right now, and have had no luck whatsoever searching online for possible solutions or people running into similar things. On another thread here people had said it probably wasn't hacked, but what else could cause problems only on selective, and the most used, blogs? The ones I never talk about, post links to, etc. are perfectly fine. Is there any other possible solution you can think of for all of this stuff suddenly happening on multiple blogs at once? Thanks in advance. Jenn
The only thing I can suggest, and I am new to wordpress, is to backtrack any plug ins that may be the culprit, uninstall any new ones, reinstall your individual files that are giving the problem. Restart server, if that is an option. All of these have recently worked for me when I had problems.
I don't think restarting the server is an option on a shared server. It's not a plugin though, b/c I use different plugins on all of my blogs, and it's happening to a lot of installations. There aren't any common ones other than the pre-installed ones, but it wouldn't be them, b/c a few blogs are still working.
OK. Well, thank goodness things seem to be alright with these problems now. A programmer friend figured out that it was caused by the 301 redirects I'd put onto those domains to direct the non-www versions to the www versions. Once I removed it, all was right again. A DP member then gave me another 301 option, but it caused the same problems, so for now I'll just do without that. Just glad to have them all functioning properly again, and grateful for the help from everyone who contacted me with suggestions. Jenn
