Lots of quality backlinks - no traffic - why?

I have a site that is less than 2 months old. I spent about a month emailing people with similar websites in the same industry for backlinks. Most of the links are 1-way but I have a few reciprocals. I received a link from about 100 different websites between PR0 and PR5. (Mostly PR2 and PR3). Visitors genuinely like the site very much too and they happily linked to it.

Trust me that all of the links are high quality, I did not buy any links nor did I submit the site to any low-quality directories. It's just all solid links and nothing else.

My site is still receiving no traffic from Google and isn't even showing up in Yahoo or Bing for the term: "mysite.com".

So is this a normal pattern? Has anyone been through this situation before?

well you have only had it for just under 2 months, I find that my sites in a month have 8 backlinks... BUT i use a submitter for 2500+ backlinks which is free, the only problem is that they don't count because they are whois sites, some sites aren't considered backlinks even though they are, this can be confusing, I suggest you go on these other websites and comment somewhere and at the end put

Traffic doesnt usually come from the backlinks, it comes from search engines which the backlinks help you rank better in. its a new site, be patient and keep doing your SEO work!

    Exactly.

Also bare in mind that it takes time for search engines to find those links. Traffic comes (in this context) from search engines. Why the traffic comes from there is because of backlinks. Backlinks themselves (unless in a great position on a page geared towards sending people to your link) don't bring traffic.

Getting high traffic from google requires 2 conditions to be satisfied:
    1. your keywords have high traffic
    2. your site ranks high on these keywords.

If you are ranking high on low demand keywords or if your site is ranking down on high traffic keywords, your site cannot get high traffic from google.

If your site has a poor ranking, reasons may be:

    1. bad optimimization of your site on your keywords
    2. not enough quality backlinks (link quality is not only a matter of PR)
    3. ranking needs time: a new site cannot replace top sites which are probably high quality one's in
    .

Quality backlinks for google ranking are not necessarily quality links for traffic.

e.g. No-follow links (Wikipedia, Yahoo Q & A, ...) may bring you visitors while they do not improve your ranking

It sounds to me like your site has not even been indexed, why is no one else pointing this out? If you can search "mysite.com" in google, and get no results, then you are not indexed by google. 2 months is a very long time to not get indexed, you have submitted your url to google etc correct? My sites usually index within 48 hours.

If I do the "site:mysite.com", my site has a lot of pages indexed. Basically, I'm not ranking for anything.

I thought for sure that even after 2 months, my site would be getting visitors with original content and a nice portfolio of links. I noticed a few keywords are starting to rank higher.

I'm just not sure if my rankings will just fall flat and will stop climbing if I stop building links right now. Do you think it will keep climbing if I were to take a break and let it sit for awhile or is this about as good as it's going to get unless I get more links?

Patience grasshopper. Rome wasn't built in a day. Give it 6 months to a year. And don't stop building links.

Your traffic will come when you start ranking for keyword phrases that people actually search for. If it were as easy as getting 100 links in 2 months, we'd all be billionaires.

Where do you rank in Google for your keyword(s)? If you are not page 1 top 5 or top 3....you won't be getting much traffic.

Backlink does not means you will get traffic or if you are getting traffic then it doesn't mean that you have more backlinks. Traffic depends on on page optimization. Do it properly and get rise in traffic.

Another thing I'm concerned about is that Yahoo has about 300 of my pages index, but if I search for "mysite.com" in Yahoo, it doesn't appear. What is that all about?

You have collected good back link that is fine but for traffic you needed first page ranking, so try to achieve the same.

What I would say is that maybe you generate a sitemap for your site, open a google webmaster account and submit the sitemap. With this, you would get to know if it's indexed or not,the numbe of links pointing to each page and how your site is on the web search.Hope this helps.
