Lots of outbound links?

Will having 50/100/150+ outbound links on your site sitewide have a negative effect on your site at all?

It depends on what you are looking for.

If it is PR then it may well but if it is for anchor links it won't

How? If you are not linking to any blacklisted sites and are linking to sites that are similar to yours don't you think that would help your site?

I mean I have 50+ outbound links PR5 and I rank around 40th for "Free Online Games" on all 3 big search engines. I am just curious if I proceed to exchange links if it will be harmful.

I just did some quick research and every site said "no" but yes. It wont hurt directly, but will leak? some of your page rank to the linked sites. Maybe that would cause you to drop. Not sure.

Exchanging links is different. I do not do that.

OBLs are fine especially as it is you who is telling the search engine that you are recommending the linked sites.

My quick research said to have a little description with the links if they are all on the same page so its not considered a link farm.

I see LOTS of outbound links. So does this mean a lot of outbound links have no effect on your site?

It becomes a problem when your outbound links is far more than your inbound links... If you have many inbounds it wont be a problem ;)

I think in the 26 steps written by Brett Tabke, the suggestion was that linking to very authorataive sites is important for the future.

No, the number of outbound links on your site DOES NOT adversely affect the PR of the site.

According to the original PR formula, no PR is leaked. The only way the PR of the site is affected is through the INBOUND links and their PR, basically, not through OUTBOUND links on the site.
