My website gets between 1,000 and 2,000 page impressions per day, but my CTR is very low (under 0.5%). As most of my visitors are regulars, and visit several times a week, would I be better off with CPM advertising? Which CPM network would you recommend? How much could I expect to earn from this traffic? My audience is mainly interested in computer gaming. Cheers, Cryo.
You don't have to remove Adsense completely but you definitely should add CPM ads into the mix. I'm currently using ValueClick and there are a few ad campaigns paying $1.50CPM but I'm averaging around 40c CPM. So as a rough approximate, assuming that you have *one* CPM ad unit paying 40c CPM, and you have 2000 page impressions, that should net you 80c a day. Depending on how creative in your placements (most of the ad units have to be above the fold) it's a nice little side earner.
I would suggest as many CPM advertisers as possible, the more you can sign up for, the better. Why is this? This is because a lot of CPM advertisers have less than 100% fill rates, also a lot of them will only show ads to a visitor for a certain number of views, so it's best to have 4-5 different CPM adverts. This also helps when getting cheques, don't have to put al your money in one place. Also, if one company you are in decides to close up, and not pay there publishers, at least your not completely lost. Basically, just devide the CPM throughout regular pages, and drop down adsense at article type pages, where the user would be looking for more information.
0.5% CTR is waaay too low, even for a gaming site. No website should get that kind of CTR. What's your site url?
I have a dating site where the CTR is below 0.3 and all visitors where return visitors, for some designs CPM is a lot more effective.
AdSense is giving me a eCPM of almost $2, so maybe I'm not doing so bad after all... I think my biggest problem is the choice of ads that get displayed, I shall have to work on this. Cryo.
start by putting your websites link in your DP sig some other easy points: then blend ads in with content..make content same as ads text then advertising , advertising and mroe advertising and you will get a higher CTR
You should work on improving your ad placement, and colors etc. Also if possible, you should try expanding your site so more pages will have Adsense ads on them. These pages will have content or interesting information which will attract more users and you can then gradually improve the earnings.
My 2cents: When users click on Adsense, they leave your site, SO: 1. Do you think that having mostly return visitors could have something to do with CTR being on the low end? Maybe people don't want to leave your site and don't click 2. How many average page views per visitor do you have? If you have, 2 page views - that's 1000 visitors you have, but if it's 100 pages, that's only 20 visitors.
