I've noticed that every time I set a new campaign, it always seems to get something like 20-50 hops one the first day, for no apparent reason. Then there are usually no hops at all for a few days, until the landing pages start getting ranked. At first, I figured I might be generating those hops myself while checking out the campaign and setting my landing pages. But now I'm pretty sure that's not the case. Yesterday I started a new one and I was very mindful to click the hoplink just once, for testing purposes. Today, my analytics report 25 hops for that campaign. Anyone knows what might be causing this phenomenon?
Couldn't it also be affiliates checking it out? I often use CBtrends to see what new products were released that day, and sometimes, if I'm interested, I may take a look at the new product and order form...
I think that you have more important things to worry about then 20 hops lol. 20 hops is nothing, also are you using PPC, bum, ppv, what kind of promoting are you using. '
Could be AdWords itself. They start off a regular campaign and adjust it throughout the first hours, according to their quality guidelines...
@Faclez: I'm not fretting over measly 20 hops, I'm just trying to figure out where those initial hops come from - simply because I want to know. Indexing spiders seems like quite a reasonable explanation to me (which I hadn't thought of). Affiliates checking out the sales page doesn't make so much sense, since this initial burst of hops usually happens on the first day. Oh, I should have mentioned that I've only been using free SEO methods so far.
Yes could be Adwords themselves as mentioned above, or what I think is the cause is Googlebot and the other "robots". I mean I know that the new analytics are not meant to count these however they probably let a few through. Chris
probably cos u use social bookmarking... as soon as u submit ur result is in the most recent page.. thats when u get loads of clicks
Having thought this over, I believe those initial hops are caused by swarms of bots, most likely enticed by initial promotion tactics such as social bookmarking. I don't think bookmarking articles really really draws that much views, though.
The intial hops come from google indexing your site well. Then after a day or so, the rankings generally drop until your site has some "trust" with google.
Lol Faclez is that a hint of Irony? See, I don't deem this a terribly important issue. I just like being in the know, is all ;-)
