I have a site that deals with the free MMORPG Runescape.com

I get 1k+ unique visitors that play this game, but I have no idea how to make money off of them.

I could build a huge mailing list (10k+ people) but still don't see what I can do with it.

Anybody have any ideas? (Adsense is not allowed)

See the problem with that is that this is a FREE mmo. Why would they buy t-shirts and not want to pay for a REAL and GOOD mmo. Maybe I'm thinking about this the wrong way...

There are lots of different ad programs, dont limit yourself to adsense, or you could sel links spots in the newsletter or on the site.

Increase your PR and sell text links.

Find affiliate programs for paid MMO games. I know you're targeting a market with little money, but if they like an advertised game enough, they'll find a way to pay for it.

Asking for donations towards hosting wouldn't hurt either, as long as you specify where the money is going.

    Good luck!

If I were you I would find a lead affiliate that relates somewhat to games. You might be able to get 1/10 to sign up free for the lead, that would be 1k leads from your statistics. That could convert to nice amount of money.

So I am building the list.

Definitely either going to find gaming affiliate and through it into the emails or sell email adverts.

I don't think I'll get PR much higher (PR4) because my site doesn't have much content and no body would link to it.

If you want to increase your PageRank, then you could buy backlinks on high PR pages related to your niche. If you would buy 3 backlinks on PR6 page then you would reach PR5 next update.

What about selling adspace through Adbrite or something?

I ran a site for MapleStory, a forum basically that got about 1400-1600 uniques. People say build PR... its a gaming site, you really shouldn't invest that much money into it if you're smart, the community does it itself.

You can try links, but I dunno. What we did was worked with Currency selling companies. Do a search for runescape gold or currency or whatever it is called and email the websites. We would put up their add for 50-70 bucks per month, a banner along the top.

Also, there are linking companies out there that will give youa script to use to add to your footer. It rotates links each page load and they will pay you a static price every month, I suggest finding one of those.

Gaming sites like ours are slightly unique in that they don't and shouldn't grow as other websites, be smartt. Any other questions hit me up in a PM.

I used to play RuneScape a lot and people will pay good money for T-Shirts and posters etc.
You could sell runescape money, items and accounts.
Or sell links as they sell very well if your site is big.
    Make a forum too :)

zomg... I had a forum related to runescape. 99% of the people were under 13 and the conversations were just flame wars. Let me recap on conversation which I found hilarious.

A guy named Treyrox hate MasterofAll.

Treyrox posts: 007 is awesome. If anyone says otherwise, they should get beat up. And MasterofAll, don't you â‚£ucking post here you piece of Sh!t.
MasterofAll responds: Yea man. 007 rox and I'll beat anyone who says otherwise.
Treyrox responds: YOU PIECE OF SH!T! I THOUGH I TOLD YOU NOT TO POST ON MY THREAD. FLAME FLAME FLAME.

Sure it was fun to read, but when every single post is useless, crawling with scammers whom they expect me to deal with, and little to no money out of it, I get pretty tired.

You really think they'd buy shirts? Once the list gets big (@ about 400 atm) I'll send out an emailo saying something like "Wanna be a true RS fan? You gotta buy this shirt! Its uber cool!"

Thanks for all the responses so far.

You could have contests for runescape items and whatnot, that will bring more members in and then just show ads to earn some revenue.

Here is 1 RS Board that has Google Adsense on it. And it has been around for about a year or more. You may refer there or ask the admin there to find out revenue/profits from adsense.

Try through CJ) Commission Junction. Mypoints has online games. But also is a click ad and get free gift cards for signing up. As well as Dietzel that does free online games via paid surveys. It is an affiliate program.

Look Through this Google Searc you may find something RS affiliate wise

You could get a sponsership as well. Link Sales is another option.

commision junction seems like your best bet and get some affiliates such as game rental websites and so on and that should do some good if you are getting 1000 uniques a day.

Perhaps check out game-advertising-online.com - they specialize in ads for online gaming sites, mainly MMORPG-related ones; and most of the ads they show are for other free MMO's

Just made my first affiliate program commission! Damn this feels good. Its almost like my first dollar from Adsense, except its $5. Maybe I was wrong about Runescape players not spending money. My referral bought something for $50!

Going to start advertising it hardcore and going to through in some shirts and what not. Thanks a lot guys!
