let's say you have a long article that you just wrote. which would be better in terms of SEO AND ADSENSE: 1. Put all content on one page and with adsense. or 2. Divide up the content into two or more pages with adsense. has anyone noticed a higher CTR with dividing up content into multiple pages? i'd say having multiple pages would be easier for visitors to navigate through. but would be more work (having to manually create the pages). plus if you go through the work of getting a visitor to visit, i'd say that multiple pages would be better for adsense (more exposure to that visitor..ie. instead of 3 max ads per page for that one topic, you could technically be showing 6+ depending on how many pages you break it up into). Thanks in advanced!
Are there clear sections of this article that cover different topics or subject matter? If so split it up
I wish my site was able to divide it up over several pages. I'd do it in a heartbeat. I think howmystuffworks does it is perfect. Spread each across 3-4 pages, fewer text, more pages.
You can put up to three adsense blocks on each page. If you article is huge, give what lorien1973 suggested and post over a number of pages. Another site that does this well is entrepreneur.com
lorien - are you talking about http://www.howstuffworks.com/? 1EightT - it's all the same topic but there's enough content that it would require visitors to scroll a bit. now thinking about it, i guess it would be good for adsense (more exposure) and also a chance to try different adsense placements. but how about in terms of seo? would it be better to have one page so all the keywords would be easier indexed? Thanks!
Yep; that site. http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/parkour.htm They seem to put about 400-500 words on a page (sometimes with pictures), then a next button. That's how I'd set up my site, if I could (and will if I can find a programmer capable of doing it -not a solicitation, no emails please).
if there are different paragraphs, or sections (sub sections of the same content), I would split it into pages. That way you are targeting a sub-section on each page thus allowing you to rank higher for those terms.
If your site can be divided up into smaller pages, each targeted to a specific keyword, this is much better than one large page that covers a variety of keywords. Search engines will more easily find your pages when the page title, title tag, and content are all targeted to only one or two keywords or keyphrases.
it is much better to do your site with many pages instead of having one long page with all your content.
One of the side benefits of using multiple pages is that you can add new pages any time you want and the new pages will almost immediately inherit indexing and PR from your home page. Just make sure you have links to all your pages from other pages on your site.
multiple pages ... average web surfer is going to do a quick scan at first and if he/she sees too much, a glaze descends over their eyes and they move on!
