Lots of content on 1 page or several smaller pages?

    I am about to start a site which will be based on one small topic (1 main keyword) and would like to know which of the following scenarios would be best for SEO purposes?

    1. Just 1 or 2 pages with lots of content on, separated by headings.

    OR

    2. Several smaller pages, all based on the same topic.

    Not sure if it makes any difference but just in case it does, I will be using Wordpress for the site (as I don't have any programming experience).

    Smaller pages with unique content, around 4-7 paragraphs per page.

    My opinion is that is better more pages interlinked than 1 big page.

    The general rule of thumb is one page per individual arguement/discussion/method/topic.
