There are at least two other threads on lost SERPS in Google since the update I know. But, I would like to ask a slightly different question: I have also experienced the same but for Google.co.uk only. It also happened last year a couple of times towards the back end of the year where my clients site would jump in Google.com and disappear completely from Google.co.uk. Then they came back with a large jump in Google.co.uk after a couple of weeks. Thus far this time round they are still absent from the SERPS in Google.co.uk but showing strong in Google.com Anybody in the UK got experience of this?
my SEO senses are tingeling, something tells me it's a location issue at the source of this problem. Go to www.dnsstuff.com, type in the domain name in the 'DNS Lookup' field searching under A records. When the next screen comes click the IP address which will be hyperlinked...where does it say your website is hosted? the US?
Thanks, but the sites in question are defintely hosted in the UK. Could be a back-link issue UK vs rest of world? The interesting thing is that the sites rank for the lesser competitive keywords just not the main keyword in google.co.uk
wait, it's UK hosting? cool, I'm guessing the domain is either a .com or a .co.uk so no problem there... sounds like it could be a back link issue as it's not very common (as in I've never seen it) for a UK hosted site to drop out of the .co.uk index. Solution (as usual) - more backlinks, if possible from UK sites
Is it a .com domain name? There has been a problem with uk hosted .coms disappearing from the google.co.uk SERPs for a while now. Google is trying to fix it. More backlinks won't make a blind bit of difference.
Not just .com's but .net's also. I think it's a weight of UK V non UK links. If you have too many non UK links the site can take a dive. I see one in my SERP that never came back for the main index page but they are lucky in the fact that their secondary page which is usually their indented result still ranks in the top 10.
There are two sites in question; a .com and a .net but I am more interested in the .net at the moment. Last time this happened the ranking re-appeared stronger than previously. But, it's strange how it affects only one keyword though.
