Lost Rankings

    Here's the deal...

I have a website with addresses and information for businesses. Unfortunately, the domain had lapsed and it started pointing back to the basic page for domainsite.com

I fixed the problem, and renewed the domain. All my pages can still be found with the site:mysite.com search string, however, all my previous rankings have been lost.

Anyone else experience this? When should my rankings come back? The site has plenty of links, and I used to have top placements for a bunch of long tail keywords. Now I don't even show up...

yes, thats what happens if your site or server is down for a long period of time. google cant find the indexed site anymore and drops the ranking or the site frm indexing. you still have all the backlinks you built in the past so not much to worry. all you have to do is to build some more backlinks so that google can find and reindex your site and slowly you will get your ranking back

How long was the lapse? If you had the ranking before than if should come back over time. I had a site dip in ranking cause I didn't work on it for a long time, so as I added some new content it was back in a month or less.

Well it will definitely return to previous positions after some time if the links won't disappear.

Not much to add, I've had similar problems where my site was down for a short time due to an error by the hosting company and it soon came back. it is frustrating but there's little you can do. When Google's bots revisit the site it will quickly re-index it.
