Not possible because links are randomly picked. A link farm is a group of fixed links where linking partners have the same set of links.

You can move the file out of your web directory if you want. It does not need to be accessible via the web - only via php. This issue was brought up not too long before Shawn went on vacation.

I am checking out some of the sites that got good rankings for my main keyword... and #6 is a member of the network and showing 5 ads, so that can't be the reason.

Are the terms that dropped quite a bit part of the adnetwork?

It seems quite plain that the co-op is a link acquisition tool, only not in the traditional link farm manifestation. Members use it to acquire many inbound links with predetermined anchor text.

Here's the problem: it works really well.

Google doesn't like anything that manipulates results. That said, the co-op itself is probably difficult to detect, but the pattern of links is probably easy to detect (many new links all with the same anchor text, all which come and go rapidly from site to site).

I'm still nervous about signing up.

Yeah, all the ones that were in the network basically dropped back to where they were, or worse, before I joined the network 2ish months ago...

thats interesting- ill keep an eye on my terms, see if anything moves. I have a couple holding top spots solely from the network, so Id hate for it to be the problem. ;)

I think it would be a good idea that when we create a link in the co-op that we can put in multiple Link Texts and one gets chosen either at random or with a weight.

Hi guys, from my point of view I can give the all-clear. All my coop-keywords are up and running most of them better than ever before.

How long have they been running, and how much is your weight? I've been running in the co-op for several months, with one of the heavier weights, and that's what worries me a bit...

I've got about 30k pointing to one term, around 10k going to 3 others each- all for about 2 months.

Does this has something to do with the competitiveness of the search term? I heard that such terms usually have volatile flux. Cant be sure about it. But Im doing quite well in less competitive areas.

I agree with you that Google will not allow the co-op to manipulate its results. I'm pretty sure they can find a way to detect co-op ads (links), if not already, as some of us have already taken hits in our SERP's.

I don't necessarily think that this update is a COOP issue. I think that there are a lot of sites bouncing all over the place. A year ago at this time there was the big evil "Florida update".. with Google anything is possible. The best thing to do is not rely on any one thing to help your site out. You have to keep adding content, updating, optimizing, link exchanging, fixing errors, fixing load time, etc. No one can tell you exactly what would work the best for a site to reach the top but i can say that if you constantly work in all areas, your work will eventually pay off. It make take several months, but just think positive :D
