    Guys,

I brought a domain name yesterday from XXX.com and Today when I checked the Whois info.. it showed somebody else's information.

I called the XXX.com guys and they realized that something went wrong(ONLY AFTER I TELL THEM). They have admitted that it happened because there was a Glitch in their Billing system.

They say now that all they can do is refund the money back.. I still do not want to let go of the name.

    Tell me what to do:confused:

    Thx.

I don't think there is anything much you can do now apart from negotiating with the new owner to sell you the name.

Wait 5 days and see if it is available. A domain taster likely picked it up by monitoring your search. If a domain is returned within 5 days there is no charge. Domain tasters hold a domain for 5 days to see if it gets enough click revenue then put it back in the pot.

The registrar whom I have registered with say that they are going to delete the domain name from my control panel since it no longer belongs to me.:(

When a registrar registers a domain name, they do 2 things:

    1. They create an entry into their systems.

    2. They submit the registration order to the Registry database holder for .com
to let them know, "hey guys, somebody registered this domain name through
us. If the name's still available with you, please note it's registered through us
    for him."

The VeriSign COM NET Registry updates its database in real time. Every nano
    second counts.

You either dealt with a registrar who wasn't able to act fast enough, or it's a
reseller for an actual registrar. Things happen.

Tobycoke gave one possible suggestion. Count 120 hours (5 days) from the
creation date of that domain name and mark your calender for that day.

With luck, you might be able to register it. And that's if no one has contacted
the current registrant of that domain name or looked it up on their browsers.

Not everyone in life gets what they want.

Well if they replied with an email that basically said, "hey guys we goofed." then you may pursue a legal avenue (not a lawyer).

However, I would suggesting contacting the person about the error. If they aren't a domainer, than you could explain the situation and most would probably just give it to you.

If it is a domainer you run the risk of charging you enough money to get it back.

This is what I would do.

    1) Wait 5 days (if it drops great = no hassle)
    2) Contact registrant explain situation
    3) Open up legal avenue.

Of course if you don't want to go down the legal road ($$$) or buy it from the guy (more $$$) then I'm afraid you just have to find an alternative domain name.

That sucks..... Did it happen when you were trying to pick up an expired domain? This typically happens during the "drop"...

What are the nameservers listed on the domain?

If this happened during the drop (basically snapnames, clubdrop (AKA Enom) or pool.com will pick these up)there may be a small chance that you can get the domain through an auction using these services, but the odds aren't great (if someone requested the name through one of these services before the drop, then you don't have a chance) and you will most likely have to pay more than the reg fee. The nameserver will indicate which one of these services picked up the domain and which one to go to.

Otherwise, like tobycoke said, wait 5 days and try again.

Legal wise, as long as the company returns your money, you don't really have any legal recourse.
