Lossing positions on Google dramatically

We have lost ranking on our primary search phrase over the last year terribly, it just slowly slipped from first page, to second, to third... (Used to be in top ten but now not in the top 100). Interestingly, though, we still do very well with secondary search phrases, most in top ten positions. We have tried everything we could, we even redesign most of it but does not seem to work. We have been talking to a local SEO expert but could not find any problem with it. He said everything looks OK. Our domain is VirtualVallarta.com we have over 2,500 pages. For our primary search phrase, we have more value content than any other competitive website by a long shot. No one has the content than us and we were awarded for this for years with Google with top ten positioning. Do you think you can take a look a it and give us some guidance? Thanks.

You could have bad links pointing to your website, or Google panda related problems. I'm not to sure about how you could be losing rank if your website has good quality unique content. There are a number of problems and I would have you ask other professionals around the industry in order to find out exactly what the problem is.

Checking your websites backlinks it says you have 1309 backlinks according to backlinkwatch.com. A lot of these could be bad links from forums, wordpress comments, and spam. You might want to have some of these links removed.

One thing you can look at is this page from Google where you can look up questions you might have about your website. Below you can email Google support teams with any questions regarding your website.

Is everyone suppose to "guess" at what your primary keyword phrase is and which URL used to rank #1, #2, or #3 for it? It's kind of hard to tell you why you're not ranking for a particular keyword phrase any more without know the phrase.

We noticed that we are using h2's for our page titles and h1's below it. Could this be affecting us? Because of heading hierarchy.

The symptoms indicate that your website is penguin hit so check your link profile and if spammy links or links from low quality website found then remove your links from those website, if not able to remove them then use google disavow tool.

A possible reason could be a low-quality backlink. This could be a blog comment, a blogroll on a blog with A LOT of pages! Be sure to check your backlinks with AT LEAST 3 different tools (because there is no tool that will show you ALL your backlinks!) and try to check if there are any backlinks that could harm your website! And then try to remove it, you can always try to kindly ask a webmaster to remove it from their blog/website! :)

It could be, yes.. seems its your home page that usually holds the most authority and you have four of them at the moment, all exact copies (duplicate content) You should have only one home page... you are splitting your authority between 4 exact copies of the home page, so the site is also competing with itself for your home page targeted keywords / phrases.

you should have 3 of the above 301 redirected to: www.virtualvallarta.com, this way all of them point to that one home page, and all authority & link juice built up for the other 3 home pages will be passed to just that one.

Im not saying it will fix your ranking problems, but that is the most obvious problem that i can see with your site.

After taking an in depth look at your backlink profile, you have been losing backlinks ever since Jan 27th of this year. At that particular time you had just over 3500, (but you were on the rise, someone was building links for you) to date you currently have just under 2,900 backlinks. Though that's not a HUGE drop, you are still losing. No-one is "referring" their visitors to you, per se..

There are several reason as to why you are losing backlinks, but that's a whole different topic. I would suggest building a few (or alot) of authoritative type backlinks from here on out and diversifying your link building strategy along with anchor text variation.

Another thing I noticed was that of those 2900 backlinks that you have, your money keyword only makes up 2% of your backlink profile... Needs to be slightly higher than that. "Virtual Vallarta" makes up for 17% of your backlinks... Switch those around, but keeping mind what I said above.

Just a few things I ran across that I know you need help with and is most likely the cause of you losing your rankings...

    Holla!

Sudden drop in traffic without any action from your side like blocking pages through robots.txt, nofollow no index and similar other activities that are intentionally done to remove pages from search results.
