Loss of links and PR

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by expo09, Jun 28, 2010.

Over the weekend one of my sites has dropped in Google significantly (page 1 to page 8). After looking into it further I have discovered that it has lost its page rank and all the links pointing to it.

Has anyone experienced anything similar before?

It could be a penalty. Have you been doing anything dodgy - excessive link building, paid links, on-page strangeness, too many links with the same anchor text? If so, undo what you've done, and send a grovelling resubmission request to Google apologising profusely for your heinous crimes...!

I have a feeling that it could be about cloaking as you say that you have different sites. A very common mistake is cloaking, people do it without understanding what they do, or that the Almighty Google is an ultra smart being and can by some sort of telepathy understand your intention. If that's the case you can just re-arrange the site or take away the cloaked material. Then you will rise again, no apology is needed. Try fixing the content yourself and wait a couple of weeks and see if you'll get back.

Another thing is getting an unnatural big amount of links of course. But then if your site is legitimate, you probably soon will get back to business as usual.

We haven't used any black hat SEO and no cloaking. The content hasn't changed either so there would be no real reason for a penalty.

Go through all of Google's ToS make corrections to *anything* that is "iffy" and ask for it to be reincluded that you have removed issues.

You need to check your backlinks. If you backlinks lose value your results will show.
