Losing Yahoo positions fast!

    Hello,
This is my first post here so apologies if this not the correct place for this. My site http://www.iluvm.co.uk had No.1 spot for the keyphrase "wholesale silver jewellery" on Yahoo uk & around No. 6 to 8 on MSN.
Now my No.1 spot on Yahoo has gone, on Wednesday I dropped to No.29 and today I'm at No.64!

My MSN spot still seems to be ok and I've made no real changes to my site in last few weeks? Unless Yahoo has changed some thing, I'm at a loss as to why I've been down graded? Can anyone see anything thing wrong with site or know what's changed at Yahoo?

The keyphrase density prior to this was 5.69%, I've altered the site today and reduced it to 4.99% hoping this may have been cause.

Any one have any advice on what's happened or what I'm doing wrong?

You've done nothing wrong. I lost a couple of compettive keywords on Yahoo too. My observation is that Yahoo started to give link more weight in their ranking algorithm too though it used to focus on on-site and on-page content, at least compared with Google algo.

If you don't have many links, then try to get more quality links.

    Hello dejaone,
I have slightly less links than the site thats at No.1 and more than sites at No.2 & 3.
I do not know the quality of the links though, the bulk of mine have come from directories.
How doe's the quality of a link from say a PR3 directory in related category compare with a link on a related website in links page? The reason I ask this, is that I've not swapped links with many related sites.

Yahoo doesn't really care about PR. You just need to get lots of links with your keywords in the achor text of those links. I also suggest you look at your keyword density and make sure it is low. Yahoo will penalize for KW stuffing.

    hello,
Thanks for the info, my keyword density was 5.69% before I lost my 1 spot, I've now changed some bits and its down to 4.99% for my keyphrase.
Is this too high still? and what do people think is an acceptable keyword/phrase density for Yahoo and doe's differ a lot from Google?

Here is what I consider a safe battle plan....

KW once in Title, Meta Description, Meta Keywords, H1, H2 and once or twice in the body. That usually keeps the density low and helps to avoid KW stuffing problems.

Remember that links will have the biggest effect. Try to get your targeted keywords in the anchor text of your inbound links.

That would depend on when the updates done. Could be 2 weeks to months on end, a day if you're lucky.

No sure way to tell when they will update the cache. It seems to be monthly, but could be shorter or longer. Now if your using submit express then you could have your pages crawled every 48 hrs.

Thank you diamondsinfo for your offer, but I've not created a reciprocal link page yet on my site. I've read in a few places now that some search engines now are penalising sites for having these? Has anyone else read this or is this the usual scare mongering that go's around?
I don't know if Yahoo doe's but I heard that Google doe's but yet to read it anywhere reliable yet!

I don't think they are penalizing, maybe just not giving as much value to them.

IMO it's all about relevant themed links - yes one way links are more valued than recip links, but if you can get relevant recips they will help. If you setup a free-for-all links page and try to get and give links to any site from any topic, those will not have any value.

Unfortunately we just took a Nosedive too on one of our best sites.
Went from 5 to #2 last week.

Then to none existant on yahoo for any term.

I hope this is a fluke...
