I switched a static site over to Woedpress a few weeks ago and have lost a great number of my most important Google keywords. Some have gone from a 1st page listing to either gone completely or to about page 6 or so. I have 301 redirects from the old htnl pages to the new wordpress pages. Any thoughts? My traffic has died!
Hey islaguy, That happened exactly to me too, i have changed my permalinks, and it has died but i am building it again now, and it need weeks now my site is ok again in google. I hope yours will not need weeks!
i have the same problem.... google rank is greatest mystery of all, cause i have 1 page and rich with back link also drop to... with unique content... but my other web with less back link iwth the same back link quality, plus copy paste content, the page rank still stay strong...
Google might think that there is something malicious going on with your site and has sandboxed you. I would give it a few weeks and see if you start to rank again in the SERPs. This is just a guess though.
Webmaster tools will tell you everything you need to know. I would bet everyone having problems do not have a fully qualified domain Read this If you redirect your domain and it is not fully qualified you have created a loop to nothing
I changed from blogspot to my own domain at Wordpress.org. Even tho a large number of my old backlinks changed their urls to the new site and a load more joined, it still took 10 weeks to get my old page rank back.
It sounds like you made a stupid choice. I suggest reverting back to your old static site, or taking the time to rebuild it.
Well, the webmaster obviously thought they needed to move the site over. If that old site had membership subscribers, then email them all the new site info. Sometimes we all just panic about Google PR. For that matter, many of us inherently panic at any change google even thinks about. If you don't fully own the domain and have control panel access to the site and options, you probably should not be concerned with PR at all. Free is free, it costs nothing!
Normally you just need to wait for a couple of weeks unless of course if you are banned by Google. If you are not using any black hat techniques, you should be fine!
Hey Master Directory, It's not about it's allowed or not, but if surfers see your posts are indexed in Google, and then they go to your site (for this post) and found nothing, that's not good for Google. I tried to redirect 301 all of my nothing found link, and now google is fine with me, i am so happy LOL.
That's exactly what I did and what I thought. I changed my permalinks, and then i switched back again (because no visitors at all) but then I think about long term. So i decided to clean my permalinks, and resubmit my sitemap, and stick with it (even without Google visitors for a few weeks). Now Google is happy with my SEO friendly permalinks, and i am stunned by Visitors that coming from Search Engines, they find me!
It happens with most of us while changing the site. Keep patience and do the work regularly. Webmaster tools watch is required. You can submit press release and news as well.
Google is the best but they are slow so it will take some time to regain your rankings with Google. Do you use Search engine friendly urls ? if not use them too after some time your site will be fine.
give it some time. I recently changed a domain name, did a 301 redirect but still saw a huge decline in traffic from google. Now weeks later it is starting to grow again.
