Which one's more important to you?

For example, I don't think Youtube.com looks that great, but the functionality that it has is just tip top. Same goes for other big websites such as metacafe.com, dailymotion.com

This is as opposed to really niche websites such as grindtv.com , spikedhumor.com etc which have really great designs.

What do you think is more important?

Please vote, maybe somebody can learn something from this.

looks for a first mpression, functionality to make them come back. 50/50 i guess, though 60/40 to looks would be more accurate

If the site looks ugly then people will more then likely be turned away however if it look good but doesn't function then the user won't come back so you really need to meet in the middle.

You need both for the reasons already mentioned above.

functionality IS needed for a website but making it look attractive makes it look more appealing. so both are needed, in my opinion

I think functionality is the first thing you should take care of. Looks should be simple and clean. I mean you don't need an attractive website to make it work, you can do it just with functionality a clean(not bad looking) design,

Obviously functionality is more important as a pretty site with no function, is just a picture..no use to anyone.

However that being said there is no need to compare, as there is rarely a need to trade-off looks v functionality, meaning we don't have to sacrifice one for the other. Therefore there is no reason why a site shouldn't look pleasing on the eye while providing functionality.

Also looks can be vital, when creating a site which is not unique. As the functionality of our site is already out there we need to provide an advantage against our competitor, and the way the site looks is a way of doing this

At first sight you see the "cover" soo the most important part is the design.
The design makes you stay on a site, but if it doesn't function well it's very posible that the site will make the client go away, far away.
In conclusion the most important part it's the "looks".

Functionality is more important. Something like google, which is just so simple, just one search bar, is amazing, compared to websites with all sorts of buttons and pictures everywere, which make it hard to navigate and use.
