Some people here get info from the search engines directly. Google wants to improve quality and has asked search engine optimizers to work with them instead of trying to trick the spiders etc. (Google Dance 2004)
Even if true - it IS important when it comes to the Coop and exchanging links, as well as other things.
good luck with that. The only purpose PR has now is to confuse webmasters (new seos) who are trying to outsmart Google instead of creating or linking to quality content to improve their results.
http://www.seroundtable.com/archives/001214.html The above link claims that Google itself says that Page Rank is an entertainment device, they used to say and still do in some of their pages that it is important to the way the search engine works. What is true here folks?
That claim was made by a member of another forum. GoogleGuy later said it was false and suggested that it was irresponsible for seroundtable to quote something like that on the basis of the word of someone with no inside knowledge.
When pressed in court Google did say that Page Rank was simply an expression of their free speech rights, so they could give you a PR 2 if they wished and it is simply an opinion, not rocket science.
The problem is that search engine optimizers got so obsessed with PR (Example right here) that the overall quality of search results went down.
Where did Google say that, AC? The claim referenced in the URL you gave was that he had received an email from Google confirming that "PR was for entertainment purposes only". Frankly, I'm surprised that seroundtable even gave that air time. Is Google in the habit of emailing nobody in particular and revealing secrets of how they do business? It's ludicrous. The guy lied.
I just went to searchking.com and they are hilarious. They offer this : 50 PR 4’s for only $750 a month 25 PR 6’s $2,000 a month I'm so happy that Google iced them
That last update just did not seem to be your run-of-the-mill one and it did produce some odd and rather unlikely results. One thing I noticed that it took much longer than most to propagate across the datacenters. I don't know exactly what that means but it was one of the unusual aspects of the update. Last time I checked (maybe 10 days ago) there were still some datacenters out of synchrony but after that I got distracted by other issues. I just checked now two sites using McDar's datacenter tool and the datacenters STILL are not all in synchrony. What gives?
The tool minstrel linked to was a different tool than the one in your tool menu, Shawn. The one linked to in your tool menu in the Google Datacenter Watch tool (link also below in signature) The tool that minstrel linked to is the Datacenter Quick Check tool. This tool will check for and report a pages position on each of the datacenters. You get this info by inserting url and keyword and selecting one of the radio buttons "akadns" through ".147" PLUS it will also check for the PR and Backlinks to a particular page on all of the datacenters. To check for PR and Backlink info select the "Check for BL/PR Update" radio button. Caryl
A clients site... Co-op member. PR4 There are some strange things going on at Google at the moment. Google has the page listed with the site command, but no snippet and no cache. Come on Google. Give us a break. Google dances are not always that good for your health. He gets all his traffic from the other engines where he ranks top for his search phrases, and no where to be found on Google.
im stressing out, PR dropped on 1 site, and in Serps... trying to get the Coop to work, im having much problems though.. ill figure it out eventually.
Hang in... many of us are having similar problems. I got a PR bump, but have definitely been penalized falling from #36 to #56 to #76. I built a forum, haven't turned it on yet, finally got the co-op working (asp) so thought. But, I couldn't validate. Installed the asp update, now ads don't show. I think I'm back to the original problem with my host not allowing cross-domain communication. I've got a million other things to do, and trying to do it all. Take a break, get a fresh start, and you nail it for sure.
