Looking to register a domain to be deleted tomorrow.. When exactly?

    Hi all,

A domain I am looking at is in PENDINGDELETE status and it says it will be deleted tomorrow (Aug-03). I was wondering what time exactly will the registrars (such as Godaddy) see it as "available" so that I can be one of the first to grab it? It's not such a great name for me to 'backorder' it and spend the extra $50 but I'd like to register it asap.

I was searching around forever and could not find an answer to this.

    Thanks!

Here is a superb explanation of different domain states: http://www.cyberindian.com/domain-registration/article.php?article_id=133

I remember reading somewhere, that the time is around 12Noon/1PM. There are 2 problems here: first, the time is never precise and can be off by a few hours. Secondly, to your surprise, many "not-so-great" domains get snatched through SnapName or Pool (many domain speculators are willing to pay $60 for an aged domain, even if its PR/Traffic is 0).

If someone bids on your domain through SnapName-type service, you will loose. So as a safety net, consider overpaying a bit, and bidding as well. Just a thought.

When you backorder a domain with snapnames but the domain owner renews the domain just a couple of hours before the domain's expireation. What happens to the $60? Do you loose them?

I prefer to buy domains from globat.com.

Its Cheap ($1.95 /per year and $8.95 from 2nd yr onwards)

Good control panel (u can change your dns and stuff easily)

Fast approval and setup (if your billing and payment info is correct you will get your domain as SOON as you press the submit button in your order form)

Snapnames doesn't charge you until they manage to get hold of the domain for you.

WebGuy84 - the owner cannot renew the domain during the 5-day "Pending Delete" period. Take a look at the link I had posted above: it gives excellent explanation of what happens when after the domain expired.

This is incorrect. Snap and Pool both only charge if they get the name and you win the auction (or are the only one to place a backorder). There is no charge to place the original backorder. The only one who charges up front is godaddy, which is basically worthless anyway when it comes to decent names.

Hi. Did you manage to get that domain after all? Did you use SnapNames? I'm curious because I also want to backorder a domain this way.;)
