Looking to promote music website better

I have a music site called www.mypromopack.com where musicians can build electronic promo packs to promote themselves. They get their own page with songs, bio, blogs, pictures, and more. We are a free service and we also offer a premium service with more add ons for a small price. We are pretty new just about 6 months old but we do not have that much traffic. I know there is no magic wand for this but ideas on how I could make my site better and get more traffic to it would really help me out. I think the site has potential but we need traffic. Suggestions please.

Look at advertising directly to the bands. Look at sites like myspace music and those types of sites.

That is a super looking site.

I think you may need to spend some money on advertising. Maybe adwords and buying text links.

I have tried some text linking and I have tried adwords which I spent a lot of money and got very few hits. I like myspace to advertise bands because there are so many to advertise to but it seems like everyone on myspace just worries about their space and never actually reads other peoples pages. Thanks for the input. I am working on some new ideas and outside help is always welcome.

    Whats your budget?

Start a few music related blogs, and use the advertising for your site. That is what i'm doing right now with my record labels website. I'm building a music news site to drive traffic.

Determine what makes you different, more importantly better than your obvious competition, MySpace.

Get some testimonials about success stories using your service.

Yeah, and maybe with that do a price comparison showing your site as cheaper than a combo of purevolume, sonicbids, etc

My budget is going to be $5K a month for advertising but I do not want to waiste a lot of money on advertising to impressions and no click through's.

Maybe do some CPM Adwords on purevolume.com and look into the IndieClick network.

I would let you have our premium service for free if you would promote us on your myspace site, that sounds great. All you need to do is sign up for our free service, tell me your band name and how you registered and I will move you over to the premium service. You can email me at info@juxhead.com

In that case, I think I have a way we can work together on something. I'll try to email you tonight or tomorrow.

There are many methods to promote a website of any kind, the best way is to get links on company product websites. For instruments and the like in your case.

You might want to take a look at advertising in Last.fm. I really like that site and I do pay attention to the ad's. Just a thought.
