I'm looking to invest in an existing website. I'm completely new to flipping sites/investing, but I am a webmaster. Any tips? I'd like to put about $250 towards a decent earning site to grow and hold on to it. If you had 250 to put towards investing in a site what steps would you take? thanks.
If this is a longterm thing, I would say go for a short, quality .com domain name, as I think the future will see those only rise in price. If it's short term, I would go for something that is getting alot of traffic but is perhaps not utilizing the traffic as well as it could it. You could buy it, fix it up to engage the traffic better, then then use the results (increased traffic and more profits etc) to market the website for re-sale. I just watched a 2 hour video on this very topic by Yaro Starak, you would probably benefit alot from it in making a good investment with your site: http://www.entrepreneurs-journey.com/2722/buy-sell-website/
I would suggest you buy 5 website using $250. Afterall it will minimize the risk. If your time frame is below 3 month, then you better buy news site that cover latest news.
Cloud computing is a hot topic right now, so if it were me, I'd buy a nicely designed website with a memorable, short domain name and hire writers to answer the questions everybody seems to have.
Have you been to flippa.com? You can pick up some good tips from there as to which sites sells well etc
