Hi everybody, I am a supplier of food supplements and have been thinking of making it in the masculine line with some of the liquid supplements and powders. There are many competitors in this line and manufacturing them involves a good investment that I cannot make at the moment. So, I have decided to make it with private labeling (as the earlier range is also not manufactured by me).I need some suggestions on choosing a better manufacturer that my previous for my product range.

Your question is not quite clear. Are you a distributor for any similar products now? If not, that is where I would start. Sell proven brands as a distributor. Once you have a relationship with some of these manufactures, it will be much easier to see who has a good process of development, packaging, and shipping. Then it is a question of which one of these companies has a private lable program. I have been suprised how easy this is in other industries but I am not sure about the supplement industry. Depending on what kind of volume you are considering, you could ask for blank/generic product then do your own lable before distribution. If you are just starting, this might be the way because of the high minimums that the manufactures may require to set up the lable process. Shipping to you blank costs them nothing extra. I would definitely consider the laws that govern ingestible products and consider the liability of your private lable.

I am not sure about this business model. I am sure it makes sense for GNC because of volume but it seems like you could distribute brand names at 40% to 50% margin and have a lot less headache.

If I misunderstood your model, I apologize in advance.

Private label marketing …..that’s good…when you don’t have the capital to go into your own production….you can always hire someone to manufacture your product range. The manufacturer should be always able to meet your demands on time as that will ensure your availability in the market and be able to provide the products at minimum costs so that you can have a competition at the market level. As your range includes , you have to be up to the mark that your product states.
