Last thread on this was closed but i just wanted to state that although possibly unethical it would not be illegal to hack a site that you legally owned. Thread closed!
Once again people have mixed up views based on what they see on TV. Hackers you don't need to worry about, Crackers you do. Lots of companies hire hackers to run pinhole and exploit tests on there own systems and networks in order to improve their overall security. Being an Internetworking and Security Architect I've done this many times as a consultant myself. Don't see how that can be considered unethical.
Not to mention, tracking down the actual host of the site is quite simple and takes only a few seconds. The legal way to get such a site shut down is to e-mail the host's abuse contact.
That's like saying you can't do what ever you want to do with your own stuff. duhhh....Yo cop, would it be illegal to destroy my own computer? Cop: Nope. It's yours there for you can do what ever you want to do with it.
Yeah but you can't do whatever you want to your child, or to your dog . And even if you own a store, you can't go rob it with a gun . thanks
