Looking to buy sitewide links for my competitors (joke)

Today I read several articles relating to buying sitewide links and how they are now turning out to possibly be hurting your rankings.

With that being said, I would like to purchase sitewide links for my competitors.

Just kidding.

Seriously though. Does anyone believe this? And if so, wouldnt this open up a whole new box of games for those who like to try shady practices?

I mean, if buying a link for my own site is bad, why would I not just buy a link for my competitor?

Well I did believe that no link can hurt you as well. BUT, the only site I lost PR on is the only site I was buying links for. Kinda strange isnt it?

 

Well that could just mean that you have lost other links to that site in that time.

 

You can certainly buy links for competitors but what if instead of hurting, it actually helps them ?

Nope. I was very careful about that. I've even removed a lot of links in the past 6 months. All sites I link to from the site in question go through a number of checks before I'll do so.
