    OK since everybody is doing an "ole" SEO technique of link baiting for Unique Quality Content. Heres mine too.

    www.dirsurfer.com ---->> did not pass
    www.dirsensei.com ---->>did not pass

    Have a good day everyone and get some bots attention from this thread for Unique Quality Content.

    That's a good point. When you accept a listing into your directory it may show up as unique, but it could just be that yours is the first directory to accept that website with that particular description, and the submitter may be about to do a few hundred other submissions with the exact same text. And if you rewrite text, it could just get scraped, or even re-used by the website owner because your version is better.

    So uniqueness is always going to be fluid, and never at 100% for a directory of a decent size.

    Offcourse is really hard to keep 100% unique, but I am accepting directories that have a policy to rewrite descriptions, there is a big difference between 75% or 50% unique and 100% duplicated content like 98% of the directories are.

    What is the difference between a directory with user submitted descriptions and a scraper site that scrapes directories?

    If thats the case i edit 70% of listings because many of the clients dont know whats descriptions too and hence i have to rewrite it, so does that mean am i also into the list :eek:

    There are a few directories with PR5 detail pages. Some of the directories link them site wide or externally and others do not, so it can be a bit deceiving if you look exclusively at the PR of those detail pages, unless that's all you're interested in.

    I think aviva has pr5 detail pages.

    Even if some owners manipulate things by linking to the detail pages, it still benefits the link owner in terms of pr.

    I think most of the detail pages in BestDirs.com have pagerank, mainly because I don't have any other external links.

    I'm just sugesting that before someone gets the impression that their detail page would likely have the same PR as those in some directories they should look a bit closer. ;)

    I really don’t know if PR is a good benchmark for the power of a directory..

    But if you are interested on PR, Ask Directory as several PR5 Detail pages, normally this is on featured links that have internal rotating sitewide, normal listings with no internal sitewides are getting PR4.

    Really I am more interested in content, what is the use of a high PR directory full of duplicated content.

    I have a policy for unique descriptions at http://www.addyourownpage.com but the site is relatively new, and doesn't have any listings yet, lol.

    PR is the reason I buy links, maybe you buy them for other reasons.

    Well, you need to ensure that the page will pass PR. It won't if the page is removed from the index for duplicated content. We don't know how search engines will determine what constitutes a duplicated page in the future, so this discussion is relevant to buying links. It's a case of, how sure are you that your directory links will be worth something after each algorithm update?

    I am so happy; that there are still some intelligent souls on DP I was just about to lose hope :).

    My idea with time the duplicated content filters will get smarter and tighter, even today is very easy to profile a directory with 99% duplicated content, like most directories are, and probably they already are classified as “scrapper” sites, and the links devaluated. With time their pages will go to supplemental and probably de-indexed.

    Google will probably look at PR to get the authority and unless you have the highest PR, you site will get hurt, I think Dmoz vs Clones example already shows it, do you see a loot of Dmoz clones on SERP? (besides google dir :D).

    I think its a no-brainer, having unique content will never hurt you, having duplicated content could hurt you..

    It is your directory. YOU make the rules. Specify them in your TOS and then you CAN change the description. In some cases, the description is so bad, it is begging to be changed. Some site owners with poor English will actually appreciate that.
